UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, off to a 3-0 start to the season, hits the road for the first time this weekend. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will face Valparaiso University on Sunday (Nov. 24), with tipoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. locally (2:00 p.m. ET) at the Athletics-Recreation Center.
• The Valparaiso matchup is the first of eight-straight games away from home for the Brown and Orange. BG will return home, unpack, repack and leave town again to play three games in the Victoria Invitational in Victoria, British Columbia, next week. That tournament begins with a game vs. Green Bay on Thanksgiving Day.
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• The Falcons have begun the season with three wins for the third time in seven years, and the ninth time in the history of the program.
• Sophomore Kadie Hempfling has flirted with a triple-double not once, but twice, in the first three games of the season. She became the first Falcon with a double-digit assist total in nearly nine years (Tracy Pontius vs. Cal State Fullerton; Dec. 4, 2010), dishing out 10 assists in the season-opening win over Cleveland State. Then, just two games later, Hempfling again had 10 assists vs. Notre Dame College.
• Is it early in the season? Yes, it's early in the season. But, the Falcons are ranked among the top-25 teams in the nation in several offensive categories, including scoring offense, field-goal percentage, three-point accuracy and assists per game.
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson has returned to form after missing the entire 2018-19 season due to injury. Thompson scored 20 points against both CSU and Morehead State, falling just one point shy of matching her career high in each case. Then, she had 18 points in BG's win over NDC.
• Junior Angela Perry has had a pair of 20-point outings this season to date, both coming against Cleveland-area schools. Perry scores 20 points vs. CSU in the opener, then had a game-high 20 against Notre Dame College. She leads the MAC with a field-goal percentage of 64.5%.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE CRUSADERS
• Valparaiso is 1-3 on the young season, and two of the Crusaders' three losses have come against Big Ten Conference foes. VU has defeated North Dakota State and lost to Ohio State, North Dakota and Northwestern. The latter game was a 69-48 decision on the road Thursday night. Sunday's BGSU game will be the home opener for the Crusaders. Addison Stoller leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 14.8 ppg and 6.0 rpg to date. Grace White and Grace Halls have 8.8 and 8.0 ppg, respectively. Second-year head coach Mary Evans returned six letterwinners, including three starters, from last season. The 2018-19 Crusaders went 8-24 overall and 3-15 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Valparaiso, 5-1, in the all-time series between the teams, and the teams are meeting for the third-straight season. Last year, the visiting Falcons picked up a 79-72 road win over the Crusaders (Dec. 21, 2018). Two years ago (Nov. 28, 2017), in the teams' first meeting in over nine years, BG posted a 90-77 win over VU at the Stroh Center. BGSU is 3-0 at home and 2-1 on the road vs. Valpo. The Falcons picked up a 91-79 win at venerable Anderson Arena in January of 1990, then captured a 127-99 victory on the road two years later. That 1992 game saw school records set for points in a game as well as combined points by both teams in a game, and both records still stand. BG opened the 2007-08 season with an 81-56 win over VU at "The House That Roars," but the Crusaders picked up a 69-58 victory over the visiting Falcons the following year (Nov. 19, 2008). The latter result dropped BG to 0-2 on the season, but the Falcons responded by winning the next 25 games en route to a 29-5 overall record.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Valpariaso contest, BGSU will head to British Columbia for three games in the Victoria Invitational. The Falcons face Green Bay on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28), then will meet either Mississippi State or San Francisco in Friday (Nov. 29) action.
