UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team hits the road to play three games in as many days over the Thanksgiving holiday. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will head to British Columbia to participate in the Greater Victoria Invitational presented by the City of Langford.
• BGSU will open the invite by taking on Green Bay in a Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28) game scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. locally (2:00 p.m. ET). Friday (Nov. 29) will see the Falcons face either San Francisco or No. 8 Mississippi State, depending upon the results of Thursday's games.
• On Saturday, BG's opponent will be one of four teams: California Baptist, Houston, No. 3 Stanford or No. 15 Syracuse (rankings based on Tuesday's [Nov. 19] USA Today Sports coaches poll). All games will be played at the University of Victoria's CARSA Performance Gym.
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• The Falcons lost for the first time this season on Sunday (Nov. 24), falling to Valparaiso in overtime by a 95-90 score. It marked the first time in over 15 years that BG scored 90 or more points and lost (since a 102-97, four-OT setback vs. Northern Illinois at venerable Anderson Arena on Feb. 18, 2004).
• Thursday will mark BGSU's first-ever game played in Canada. Heading into this week, the Falcons have only ever played two regular-season contests outside the United States. The Brown and Orange split a pair of games at the Caribbean Classic in Cancun, Mexico, in December of 2006. BG gave No. 4 Duke a battle before falling, 55-46, and the Falcons bounced back for a 59-48 win over UT-Arlington.
• The Falcons currently lead the Mid-American Conference in seven team categories, including scoring offense (86.5 ppg), scoring margin (+17.5), field-goal percentage (.485) and three-point FG pct. (.424). BGSU is ranked eighth in the nation in three-point accuracy.
• Junior Madisen Parker made seven three-pointers on Sunday at Valparaiso, falling just one shy of tying the school record. It marked the second time in four games this season that Parker had knocked down seven shots from behind the arc. Parker is tied for first in the MAC and third in the nation in three-pointers made per game (4.50).
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson has returned to form after missing the entire 2018-19 season due to injury. Thompson scored 20 points against both Cleveland State and Morehead State, falling just one point shy of matching her career high in each case. Then, she had 18 points in BG's win over Notre Dame College, and recorded her first collegiate double-double at Valpo, with 16 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE PHOENIX
• Green Bay is 3-2 on the year, with wins over Central Michigan, Missouri and Chicago State and losses against South Dakota and Marquette. The Phoenix have topped 100 points in two of the five games this season to date.
• Frankie Wurtz has 15.8 points per game to pace four double-digit scorers, and she is one of three players with 5.8 rebounds per contest.
• Green Bay was tied for first in the Horizon League in the preseason poll, and Wurtz was named to the preseason all-league first team.
• Head coach Kevin Borseth's team was plagued by injuries last season, but still went 22-10 overall and 15-3 in league play, advancing to the WNIT.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons and Green Bay are tied, 1-1, in the all-time series, and the teams have not met in over a quarter of a century. BGSU is 0-1 at home and 1-0 on the road vs. the Phoenix. Both prior meetings came in December – a home loss (76-65) in 1990 at venerable Anderson Arena and a 71-69 victory three years later in Green Bay.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Greater Victoria Invitational, the Falcons' season-long eight-game road swing will continue with a contest at Marshall on Saturday, Dec. 7. That game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
