FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• Head coach Robyn Fralick enters her second season with the Falcons, who return eight letterwinners from a year ago. That group is joined by a ninth returnee, Caterrion Thompson, who missed the entire 2018-19 campaign due to injury after earning a letter in each of the previous two years.
• Thompson is part of a four-member senior class that also includes Andrea Cecil, Clare Glowniak and Jane Uecker. Cecil enters the 2019-20 with a career total of 891 points as a Falcon, tops among returnees.
• In Fralick's first season, the Falcons had three players make over 50 three-point field goals for the first time in three years. A fourth player hit 39 triples, and three of those four return in 2019-20.
• The Cleveland State game is tied for the earliest regular-season opener in program history. The Falcons kicked off the 2018-19 season on Nov. 6 as well, facing Michigan State in East Lansing.
• If you're one of those people who likes to be technically correct (which is the best kind of correct), the CSU game will be the earliest start to the regular season in BGSU history by roughly an hour. Tipoff for the game vs. the Vikings is 6:00 p.m., while last year's MSU contest began at 7:00 p.m.
THE FALCONS: A QUICK OVERVIEW
• BGSU returns a total of eight letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's team that finished with a 9-21 overall record and a 2-16 mark in Mid-American Conference play. BGSU went 7-7 at the Stroh Center, 2-13 in road games and 0-1 in neutral-site contests a year ago.
• Head coach Robyn Fralick begins her second season on the BGSU bench. Her staff includes associate head coach Kim Cameron, assistant coach Maria Kasza, assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Joel Whymer, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Abby Nakfoor.
• The 2019-20 roster includes four seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and four freshmen. Andrea Cecil, Clare Glowniak, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker comprise the senior class.
• The juniors include Madisen Parker, Angela Perry and newcomer Mari Hill, while Molly Dever, Kadie Hempfling and Morgan McMillen each enter their sophomore season in the Orange and Brown.
• The freshman class includes Elissa Brett, Kaillie Hall, Macy Spielman and Olivia Trice.
• Cecil led the Falcons in scoring a year ago, with 15.8 points per contest, and she was second on the team with 5.9 rebounds per game. Cecil scored 20 or more points 11 times last year, and finished 13th in the nation in free-throw percentage (88.9%), and shot 40.1% from the arc, but fell just short of qualifying for the NCAA minimum in the latter category.
• McMillen averaged 13.1 ppg, and scored in double digits in 21 of her first 30 career outings. She tied the school single-game record with eight triples vs. Marshall (in her second collegiate game). She was ranked 26th in the nation in three-pointers made per game, and hit 89 on the year, the second-highest total in school history. McMillen ended the year ranked 39th in the nation in total three-pointers made and 41st in triples attempted.
• Perry scored 8.9 ppg and shot 49.5% from the floor, scoring 20 or more points on three occasions. Hempfling and Parker scored 6.0 and 5.4 ppg, respectively. Hempfling averaged a BG-best 7.3 rebounds per game, and she dished out 4.0 assists per game to pace the Falcons in that category as well.
• Parker went 39-of-100 (39.0%) from three-point land, including a perfect 3-for-3 on three occasions last season.
• In MAC games only, Cecil led the team with 15.8 ppg a year ago, while McMillen scored 10.6 ppg, Perry 7.6 and Hempfling 5.9.
• A total of 10 different Falcons made at least one start in the 2018-19 season. Cecil was the only player to have started all 30 games. Hempfling made 29 starts and McMillen 28 last winter.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE VIKINGS
• Cleveland State went 10-20 overall last season, finshing with a Horizon League mark of 7-11. Second-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier returns eight letterwinners from last year's club, including Mariah Miller and Savanna Crockett. Both players were named to the Preseason All-HL Team. Miller had 15.5 points per game last season, while Crockett had 8.6 rebounds per contest and set a CSU freshman record with 46 blocked shots. The Vikings played an exhibition match vs. Ursuline on Thursday (Oct. 31), picking up a 93-50 win.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Cleveland State, 9-5, in the all-time series, but the Vikings bring a two-game series winning streak into Wednesday's game. Four years ago, CSU shot out to a huge halftime lead en route to a 69-48 win over the Falcons at Quicken Loans Arena. The following season (Dec. 21, 2016), in the teams' most recent meeting, the visiting Vikes ended the pre-Christmas schedule with a 64-56 win at the Stroh. The Falcons had won seven-straight series meetings prior to CSU's current two-game streak. The teams met 10 times between 1978 and '88, but have faced off only four times in the last three decades. BGSU is 6-2 in home games (including an 0-1 mark in the Stroh) and 3-3 on the road vs. the Vikes over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• The Cleveland State game is the first of three consecutive contests at the Stroh to open the season. The Falcons will be back at Bill Frack Court on Saturday (Nov. 9), hosting Morehead State in a 2:00 p.m. start.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will face Notre Dame College on Monday, Nov. 18, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the Stroh.
• Following the Notre Dame clash, BGSU will play eight-straight games away from home, beginning with a contest at Valparaiso on Sunday, Nov. 24.
