UP NEXT IN FALCON FUTBOL
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team closes the regular-season schedule with an important Mid-American Conference match this weekend. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons welcome Northern Illinois University to Cochrane Stadium for a Saturday evening (Nov. 9) matchup. First touch is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will begin MAC Tournament play with a first-round contest on Tuesday (Nov. 12), with BG's opponent and site still to be determined.
THE FALCONS AND THE MAC RACE
• With just one match remaining for each MAC team, the Falcons' league tournament fate is still up in the air. The simplest breakdown of BGSU's tourney scenarios is this: If the Falcons beat Northern Illinois on Saturday, BGSU will host a MAC Tournament first-round game three days later. A tie or loss to NIU would send BG on the road for the first round.
• If the Falcons defeat NIU, BGSU would host the Huskies again on Tuesday. That outcome would give both teams six points in the final standings, deadlocking them for fourth place, but BG would earn the number-four seed by virtue of the teams' head-to-head result.
• A tie or loss to NIU would send BGSU on the road for Tuesday's tourney opener, and the Falcons could face either NIU, SIUE or Western Michigan. Akron has  clinched a first-round bye (and the number-one seed), so BG could not face the Zips in the first round. And, West Virginia can't finish any higher than fifth, so the Mountaineers will not host a first-round game.
• Tuesday's first-round (quarterfinal) matches will be held at campus sites, with the third- and fourth-seeded teams hosting matches. The top-two seeds will earn byes into the semifinals (Nov. 15), which will be played at Akron.

FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• The Falcons picked up a 1-0 win at Wright State on Tuesday night (Nov. 5), capturing the I-75 Cup in the process. BGSU has a record of 10-6-1 in 2019, with at least two matches remaining. The Falcons went 6-7-4 last fall.
• Entering Saturday's NIU match, the Falcons have scored 16 goals in six home matches this season to date. BGSU is averaging 3.50 goals per game over the last four matches at Cochrane, with at least three goals in all four of those contests.
• Senior goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia and the BGSU back line kept a clean sheet at Wright State on Tuesday. It marked the ninth shutout of the season. That is the highest total – both by an individual and by the team – since BGSU Hall-of-Famer Scott Vallow and the Falcons kept 10 clean sheets in 1998.
• BGSU has won five true road matches, and a total of six games away from home this season. Those are the program's highest totals in five years, since the 2014 club won six road matches and a total of eight contests away from home.
• Since Eric Nichols assumed the BG helm prior to the 2009 season, the Falcons have a record of 61-8-6 when scoring at least two goals in a match. BGSU is 32-2-2 when scoring three or more goals during that time.

THE OPPONENT
• Northern Illinois is 7-8-1 on the season, and the Huskies enter the BGSU match with a record of 2-2-0 in the MAC. Northern saw a two-match winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss at Akron last weekend. The Huskies have scored 10 goals in four MAC matches to date, including nine goals over the last three contests. NIU is 4-2-1 at home and 3-6-0 on the road this year. In the conference, the Huskies are 1-1 both at home and away. Jan Maertins has 15 points to lead a balanced scoring attack, as four players have at least 13 points on the year. Maertins and Nick Markanich each have six goals, while Anthony Markanich has give. Alex Welch has a team-leading seven assists. Martin Sanchez has played in 12 of the 16 matches in goal, and has 48 saves and a 1.72 GAA. A year ago, coach Ryan Swan's team went 8-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons trail Northern Illinois, 17-12-1, in the all-time series, but BGSU has captured the last three meetings. Last year in DeKalb, Charlie Maciejewski's 'Golden Goal' lifted BGSU to a 2-1 victory over the Huskies. Two years ago, in the teams' last meeting at Cochrane, the Falcons ended the regular season with a 3-1 win. After dropping six-straight meetings with NIU from 2007-11, the Falcons are now 5-1-1 vs. the Huskies in the last seven matchups. BGSU is 8-7-0 at home, 4-9-1 on the road and 0-1-0 at neutral sites vs. NIU through the years.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the NIU matchup, the Falcons will begin MAC Tournament action on Tuesday (Nov. 12), with a first-round game. BGSU's opponent and site, as mentioned, will be determined by the results of the final regular-season weekend around the MAC.
