UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team plays for the second time in under 48 hours, taking on Loyola University Chicago on Monday (Dec. 16). Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will meet the Ramblers at 11:00 a.m. local time (12:00 p.m. ET) at Gentile Arena.
• Monday's matinee is the seventh in a stretch of eight consecutive contests away from home. BG's last home game was played on Nov. 18, and the Falcons will not play at the Stroh Center again until Dec. 30.
• The eight-game stretch begins and ends with games in the state of Indiana, and BG also plays contests in Illinois, West Virginia, Wisconsin and north of the border in British Columbia during that time.
THE OPENING TIP
• BGSU enters Monday's Loyola game on a three-game winning streak. All three wins have come away from home, with a neutral-site victory over California Baptist (in Victoria, B.C., Canada) and road wins over Marshall and Milwaukee.
• With the three wins away from home, the Falcons have topped the total for all of last season. The 2018-19 club went 2-14 (2-13 in road games, 0-1 in neutral-site games) outside of Bowling Green. This year's team is currently 3-3 (2-1 in true road games and 1-2 neutral-site games) in games not played at the Stroh Center.
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• The Falcons picked up a 63-51 win over Milwaukee on Saturday (Dec. 14). Sophomore Kadie Hempfling and fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson combined for 34 of BG's 63 points in the victory.
• Hempfling scored a game- and season-high 18 points vs. the Panthers. The point total was just one off of her career high. Thompson, who missed all of last season due to injury, scored in double digits for the ninth time in as many games this year.
• BG has not trailed at any point in the last three games, vs. California Baptist, Marshall and Milwaukee.
• Junior Angela Perry was named the MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday (Dec. 10), after scoring a game-high 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting in the win at Marshall. That capped a two-game stretch in which Perry scored 61 points (30.5 ppg) and made 27 of her 35 field goal attempts (77.1%).
• Loyola head coach Kate Achter is a BGSU graduate, and is one of the top players in Falcon women's basketball history.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE RAMBLERS
• Loyola is off to a perfect 8-0 start. Most recently, the Ramblers picked up a 63-50 victory at SIUE last Sunday (Dec. 8). Six of Loyola's wins have come on the road.
• Abby O'Connor has 13.8 points per game to pace three double-digit scorers, and O'Connor also leads the team in rebounding, with 8.1 per contest. Allison Day has 13.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg, while Janae Gonzales has 10.8 ppg.
• Head coach Kate Achter welcomed back nine letterwinners from last season's team that finished 13-18 overall and 6-12 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Loyola, 3-0, in the all-time series, and BG picked up an 88-74 victory at the Stroh Center last year (Nov. 20, 2018). Both of the teams' other meetings came in the 1988 calendar year, as the Brown and Orange posted a 91-61 win at venerable Anderson Arena in January, then journeyed to the Windy City 10 months later and came away with a 93-92 overtime win.
KATE THE GREAT
• Loyola head coach Kate Achter was a driving force behind some of the most successful teams in BGSU women's basketball history. She helped the Falcons to four MAC regular-season titles, three MAC Tournament crowns and four national postseason appearances during her four years in the Orange and Brown. Achter was one-half of a 2008 senior class that went 108-23 overall and 57-7 in MAC regular-season play.
• Achter still ranks fifth in BGSU history in scoring, with 1,580 career points, and is the Falcons' all-time leader in assists, with 688. She is the only player in school history with over 1,000 points and 600 assists. Achter, the 2008 MAC Player of the Year, was inducted into the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018, her first year of eligibility.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Loyola matchup, the Falcons will close the pre-Christmas schedule with a game at Purdue on Saturday (Dec. 21). Then, BGSU will play at home for the first time in exactly six weeks, hosting Davis & Elkins on Monday, Dec. 30.
