Falcons Take Down Rockets For Sixth Straight Time In Dual Meet

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program took down the Rockets with a dominating victory, winning by a score of 223-129. The meet served as the close to the Falcons' regular season, concluding with an 8-5 record, as well as 2-3 within MAC competition. The wins serves as BGSU's first since November, but creates strong momentum entering the MAC Championships.

Fast Paced Falcons

BGSU began the day with a win, coming in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Daisy Platts, Nikki Borgerding, Sarah Hennings and Noelle Lavigne concluded with a time of 1:44.81.
In the 1000 Freestyle, the Falcons came away with two of the top three spots, with Kellie House and Mary Edwards taking first and third, respectively. Both House and Edwards exhibited a strong kick in the last leg of the event to claim their spots by close margins.
Franziska Wohlert tallied in another win for the Falcons in the 100 Freestyle, pulling away from the competition and winning by more than one second.
For the 200 Backstroke, Platts snagged another victory for Bowling Green while breaking the pool record in the event, forming a commanding lead and finishing at 1:58.02, more than five seconds ahead of Lauren Sullivan who took second for BGSU. Her time was just one second shy of the school record.
Borgerding added another to the win column for the Orange and Brown in the 200 Breaststroke. She was followed by Emily Verbrugge, who utilized a late push to move from fourth to second in the last leg.
The 200 Butterfly saw Sarah Hennings as the top finisher for Bowling Green, coming in second with a time of 2:08.22.
In the 1-meter dive the Falcons took the top two spots. Talisa Lemke earned a score of 293.40 for first place with Ashley White finishing behind her in second with 264.08 points.
In the 50 Freestyle, the Falcons came away with second, third and fourth with Anna Eriksson (24.49) Wohlert (24.58) and Lavigne (24.67) finishing.
Platts tallied another win for both herself and Bowling Green, taking first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.84, leading for all 200 yards.
The Falcons closed the competition by taking first and third in the 400 Freestyle. The winning team consisted of Sullivan, Wohlert, Eriksson and Ashleigh Franks with a time of 3:31.94.

Six In A Row
The win over the Rockets is Bowling Green's sixth consecutive victory over their rival, with the streak beginning during the 2013-14 season. This win also ranks as one of the biggest in terms of margin of victory with the Falcons winning by 94. During the streak, the Falcons have had a larger margin just once when they topped the Rockets by 101 during the 2016-17 season.

"I was impressed with our performance today. We did a great job of competing. In fact, I think we were better today than yesterday. One of the highlights of the meet was Daisy Platts breaking the pool record. I am excited to see what we can do at MACs."

Up Next
Next up, the Falcons will travel to Akron to compete in the MAC Championships that will span from Wednesday, Feb. 27 through Saturday, March 2. Last year, Bowling Green closed with a fifth place finish in the MAC, including having Talisa Lemke named to the All-MAC First Team.
