California Calling; Tennis To Face Principia, Clemson In San Diego
March 15, 2019 | Women's Tennis
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team will be traveling to San Diego, Calif. for two matches over the course of Bowling Green's spring break. The first match will take place on Monday, March 18 against Principia College at 3 p.m. Following, the Falcons will face Clemson University on Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m. The Orange and Brown will travel with a 6-5 record on the season.
Serves Up
The trip to San Diego was a schedule addition for BGSU and will serve as the conclusion to the Falcons' non-conference schedule. Thus far, the season has been a wave, showing both ups and downs. The Falcons have registered three sweeps on the season, but have not been able to string together wins, having won consecutive matches just once this season. With a win against Dayton in their last match, they will look to turn the tides against Principia and Clemson. The Orange and Brown traveled to California last season, facing Azusa Pacific University, a match they fell in 5-2.
Preparing For Principia
As of Friday (March 15), the Panthers hold a 1-7 record, but will have one more match before facing the Falcons. On Saturday (March 16), Principia will go against Occidental College and will face Bowling Green on Monday, March 18 with a scheduled first serve of 3 p.m. (EST). Most recently, Principia fell to Bowdoin College on Thursday (March 14), by a score of 9-0. However, the Panthers picked up a win in the match prior, topping Kaskaskia College, 7-2. The match on Monday will be the first time the Falcons and Panthers have faced each other in program history.
Clashing With Clemson
The Clemson Tigers will enter play on Tuesday holding a 6-9 record, including a 2-5 standing within the Atlantic Coast Conference. In their most recent match, Clemson lost to ACC rival North Carolina State, 6-1. The Tigers were scheduled to face North Carolina this past Sunday (March 10), but the match was postponed. Like Principia, this will be the first time the Falcons and Tigers have met on the tennis court in program history.
