SCOT LOEFFLER NAMED HEAD COACH OF FALCON FOOTBALL
Loeffler was introduced to the BGSU community in late November and went to work hiring one of the most experienced staffs in Bowling Green history. Jim Herrmann was the most recent hire, being named Associate Head Coach and Linebackers Coach. Brian VanGorder joined the staff and is the defensive coordinator. Combined, the pair is one of only two duos in the country (along with Clemson), to be Broyles Award winners, given to the Assistant Coach of the Year, on the same staff. Herrmann earned the honor as the Defensive Coordinator at Michigan in 1997, while VanGorder won the Broyles in 2003 as DC at Georgia. Those two headline a defensive coaching staff that includes Julian Campenni, as well as LaMarcus Hicks and Jacob Schoonover -- both of whom were retained from the 2018 staff. Schoonover is also the Special Teams Coordinator.
Â
On the offensive side of the football, Loeffler named Terry Malone Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach. Malone was on staff at BGSU from 1986-95 and has also been on staffs at Boston College, Michigan, Purdue, Western Michigan and the New Orleans Saints. Erik Campbell is the Passing Game Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach, while Chris Hedden will coach the running backs. Max Warner is the Quarterbacks Coach, while Louie Addazio will coach tight ends.Â
Loeffler also brought longtime Michigan strength and conditioning coach Kevin Tolbert to Bowling Green, who has served stints in the NFL as well.
While Saturday kicks off the official start of spring practice, the Spring Game will take place April 20 at noon. Pro Day will be March 19. The 2019 BGSU Football season opens Aug. 29 as the Falcons host Morgan State, prior to home games against Louisiana Tech, Toledo, Central Michigan, Akron and Ohio.
BGSU Athletics recently announced plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of BGSU Football, as well as the 150th anniversary of college football, through the 2019 season. Fans are encouraged to visit BGSUFalcons.com for the latest updates regarding that celebration. BGSU will kick off the festivities next week, with a special "March Madness" bracket contest.
