Nationally-Ranked Throwers Sweep Day One Of Ball State Challenge

Muncie, Ind. – As expected, the Bowling Green State University throws team dominated the competition, winning both events contested at the Ball State Challenge Friday night. In fact, the Falcons took two of the top three spots in both the hammer throw and discus at the meet. Kaila Butler won the hammer throw, while Daija Young slipped past teammate Zaresha Neal for first place in the discus.

BALL STATE CHALLENGE RESULTS
THE HAMMER THROW
- Bowling Green's hammer throw unit entered the weekend ranked No. 8 in the country. The Falcons did not disappoint with a pair of top three finishes among the field of 30.
- Kaila Butler, who ranks among the top 10 nationally in the hammer, won the meet with a distance of 203-feet-10. Her distance was more than 24 feet further than any other competitor at the meet.
- Allie Farmer finished in third place with a distance of 178-3.
- Both Zaresha Neal (145-7) and Katelyn King (123-1) posted collegiate personal bests on the day. Neal finished in 13th place.
THE DISCUS
- BGSU's discus unit entered the weekend ranked No. 11 in the country and BGSU posted the top two marks among the field of 32.
- Daija Young won the discus throw by two inches, posting a mark of 156-feet-10.
- Zaresha Neal was just shy of that mark at 156-8.
- Katelyn King ended 15th at 117-7 and Andrea Weirauch was 21st at 107-6.
UP NEXT
- BGSU will continue competition at the Ball State Challenge Saturday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am with the javelin. Bowling Green's eighth-ranked shot put unit will throw following the men's shot put at 1:00 pm.
