BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program and head coach Danny Schmitz have announced the addition of Owen Recker (Kalida, Ohio / Kalida) and Josh Slayton (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) to their 2019 signing class. Both players will arrive to BGSU in the fall of 2019 and have four years of eligibility.
Recker and Slayton join 12 other soon-to-be Falcons that signed National Letters of Intent in November. That release can be accessed by clicking RIGHT HERE. The entire 14-player class will come to Bowling Green as freshmen.

PERSONAL: Full name is Owen Robert Recker … Born Aug. 17, 2000 … Son of Joe and Lori Recker … Has three older brothers (Kyle, Brandon and Jordan) and one older sister (Nicole) … Brother Jordan played college baseball at Owens CC and Siena Heights … Plans to major in business finance.
COACH QUOTE: "Owen Recker comes to us as not only one of the top arms in Ohio, but the whole Midwest region. He's the prototype for a power pitcher right now as a teenager. He is athletic, physical, works his fastball in the low 90's and spins a swing-and-miss breaking ball. Owen imposes his will on hitters between the lines like very few guys. He's a difference maker and a local product that we are very happy is choosing to stay close to home."
Josh Slayton | Lake Orion, Mich. | Lake Orion HS | 6-0 | 175 | LHP | T: Left | B: Left
HIGH SCHOOL: Three-year letterwinner at Lake Orion High School for coaches Schramek, Recknagel and Deeg … Has led the Dragons to back-to-back league championships in 2017 and 2018 … Earned All-Conference honors in each of the past two seasons … Named a scholar athlete in every season to date as a Dragon … Over 78.0 career innings, has registered 103 strikeouts while posting a 10-3 record … In 18.0 innings so far as a senior, owns a 1.50 ERA and is 3-0 with 21 strikeouts … Currently a captain for the Lake Orion baseball team … Plays travel baseball for the Indiana Prospects and South Oakland A's.
PERSONAL: Full name is Joshua Drew Slayton … Born Sept. 11, 2000 … Son of John and Kathy Slayton … Has two older brothers (Jack and Joe) and two younger sisters (Rebecca and Sophia) … Plans to major in finance.
COACH QUOTE: "We identified Josh as a multi-talented left-handed pitcher whose makeup is off the charts. Josh mixes three quality pitches presently and his fastball velocity has continued to climb over the past year. He's as hard of a worker as you can find anywhere and is always going to compete no matter the situation. Josh is going to be a really good addition to our pitching staff over the next four seasons."
