Mac Curran Joins Men's Soccer Coaching Staff
July 08, 2019 | Men's Soccer
Bowling Green State University men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has rounded out his staff with the addition of Mac Curran as volunteer assistant coach. Curran joins the Falcons after a standout playing career at Penn State University.
"I am excited to be joining a world-class institution and coaching staff," said Curran. "I look forward to competing in the MAC and bringing national success to the university and soccer program here at Bowling Green."
Curran earned four letters for the Nittany Lions, amassing career totals of seven goals and 14 points. He scored three goals as a senior, tying for the team lead, and deadlocked for second on the 2018 club with six points.
"We tried to get Mac as a player, and although we lost out that time around, we are very happy to add him to our program now," said Nichols. "With Mac fresh off of his playing career, we are excited to tap into his 'players perspective' and help get his coaching career started."
In his PSU career, Curran played in 53 total matches, starting 23. Three of his seven career goals proved to be game winners, including his goal vs. Ohio State this past fall.
Curran had a pair of goals as a freshman – including the game-winning goal in his collegiate debut – and also found the back of the net twice in his junior season. The Nittany Lions were a perfect 7-0-0 in matches in which Curran scored.
A native of York, Pa., Curran prepped at Dallastown Area High School, and also played for the PA Classics Academy. He also played football for Dallastown, where he was a Pennsylvania Football News all-state kicker as a senior in 2014.
BGSU ended the 2018 season with an overall record of 6-7-4, and the Falcons posted a 2-1-2 mark in MAC play. BG, picked to place fifth in the six-team conference, finished second and earned a first-round bye for the league tourney. The Falcons have finished second in the league twice in the last three seasons. BG went 5-1-2 over the final eight contests of the regular season, including a six-match unbeaten streak, the program's longest since 1997.
