BGSU Baseball: Summer Ball Report

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Collegiate summer baseball leagues are wrapping up, and a number of Falcons made an impact on the diamond over the last several months. Both returning and incoming players saw game action in various leagues. Below is an update on how some of the Falcons performed this summer.
Jake Wilson | OF | Traverse City Pit Spitters | Northwoods League
A part of a team that set the Northwoods League regular-season record with 52 wins … Currently playing in the second round of the Northwoods League playoffs … The team went on a league-record winning streak of 17 games during the regular season … Appeared in 63 games during the regular season and hit .280 … Posted 34 runs, 68 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 45 RBI … Ranked tied for sixth in the league with 26 steals … Drew 25 walks while only striking out 33 times … Recorded 18 multiple-hit games … Played 509.0 innings defensively – second most on the same – and only was charged with two errors.
Jay Ward | LHP | Chillicothe Paints | Prospect League
Key component on a roster that captured the Prospect League championship … Made 15 appearances from out of the bullpen … Over his final 14 appearances – which added up to 23.0 innings – Ward posted a 0.00 ERA, and allowed 14 hits while striking out 22 batters and walking 11 … Ended the summer with a 1.50 ERA … Struck out 24 batters in 24.0 innings pitched … Posted a 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (12 walks) … Went 1-0, pitching 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball on July 25 on his victory.
Tyler Hays | RHP | North Adams SteepleCats | NECBL
Made five starts … Logged 26.0 innings on the summer … Struck out 31 batters, and only issued nine walks … Finished his season with a 3.46 ERA … Posted 10 strikeouts in two of his five starts … Struck out 10 and did not allow a single base runner over 5.1 innings on June 5 … Pitched 5.0 shutout innings on June 11 … In his final start of the summer on July 4, Hays recorded 10 strikeouts in 6.0 innings on the bump … Opponents hit just .235 off the right-hander.
Dylan Dohanos | INF/OF | Kokomo Jackrabbits | Northwoods League
Played in 17 games, totaling 49 at-bats … Finished the campaign with 16 hits, 10 runs and five RBI … Hit .327 on the summer with an elite OPS of .857 … Posted a .469 on-base percentage … Drew at least one walk in nine of his 17 appearances … Worked 13 walks and only struck out six times … In his final three games of the summer, went 8-for-13 (.615) with three RBI, one double and one triple.
Will MacLean | RHP | Hamilton Joes | Great Lakes
Made four starts, racking up 20.1 innings on the summer … Recorded an ERA of 3.78 and posted 12 punch outs … In his final three starts of the summer, went at least 5.0 innings and allowed two runs or less … Picked up a win on July 21 in his last start of the season, as he allowed just two runs and five hits over 6.0 innings.
Andrew Carson | RHP | Michigan Monarchs | Great Lakes
Pitched in 14 games – all from out of the bullpen … Nine of his 14 appearances were scoreless outings … Allowed 15 hits and struck out 20 batters in 20.1 innings of work … From June 25 through July 8 – a stretch in which he made five appearances and tossed 9.0 innings – Carson allowed zero runs and one hit while striking out eight and walking four.
David Stopp | LHP | Toledo Hawks | Tri-State League
Posted a 1-1 record on the mound … Finished the summer with an ERA of 3.60 … Punched out 32 batters over 20.0 innings of work.
Danny Weidmayer | RHP | Toledo Hawks | Tri-State League
Teammates of David Stopp, Weidmayer went 4-1 on the summer with a 1.66 ERA … In 38.0 innings on the hill, struck out 45 batters while only issuing 16 walks.
Jack Connelly | OF | Atlanta Crackers | Sun Belt League

Incoming freshman on the 2020 team … Posted a .295 batting average (18-of-61) … Raked six doubles … Registered four steals.
Mason Montgomery | INF | Tri-State League
Incoming freshman … Hit .270 on the campaign … Notched 16 RBI and six doubles … Played all three infield positions during the season.
