Walz Named MAC East Defensive Player Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday (Sept. 23) evening the MAC Honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Of those named, Bowling Green sophomore Julia Walz claimed the East Division recognition for MAC Defensive Player of the Week. This comes after the Falcons completed a 1-1 weekend, topping Xavier 3-1 and falling to 2018 NCAA Tournament participant Cincinnati 3-0 at the Queen City Classic.

Walz led the Falcons in digs over both matches this past weekend. With the 31 digs against Xavier, Walz matched her career and season-high, marking the third time this season she has logged 31. Against Cincinnati, Walz added 12 more digs to her season stat line, bringing her total to 249 digs on the season. With three more service aces as well, Walz now leads BGSU in the category with 13 on the year.
The Orange and Brown will return to action on Friday (Sept. 27) to open conference play, traveling to Athens, Ohio to face Ohio University before heading to Kent, Ohio to play Kent State University. Bowling Green currently stands with a 6-6 record. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
