Falcons Open 2019-20 Season At Redbird Invitational On Sunday

NORMAL, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team begins its 2019-20 season this weekend at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Illinois. The event will take place over Sept. 8-9 at the Weibring Golf Club.

FAHEY RETURNS TO BGSU
• On Aug. 16, 2019, head coach Stephanie Young named Erin Fahey as Assistant Women's Golf Coach. Fahey, the program's all-time scoring average leader, competed for the Falcons from 2015-19.
• A three-time captain for the Falcons, Fahey closed her collegiate playing career this past spring and was named the 2019 Mid-American Conference Sportswoman of the Year. Over the course of her career, Fahey led BGSU to six team tournament titles.
• Fahey rewrote the BGSU women's golf record book during her career. Fahey's 76.49 career stroke average is tops in program history by 1.74 strokes, while her 75.48 (2017-18) is the best single-season stroke average in BGSU women's golf history. Additionally, Fahey's 77.17 stroke average in 2015-16 still stands as a freshman record. Fahey was BGSU's leading scorer each year of her career.
MULTIPLE CHAMPIONSHIPS DURING THE 2018-19 CAMPAIGN
• Last season, the Falcons earned multiple first-place finishes in what was a historic season for the BGSU women's golf program.
• Bowling Green claimed championships at both the Spring Cup Challenge and Mid-American Match Play Challenge to begin the spring season.
• The Falcons defeated Ohio University in the Spring Cup Challenge. The challenge featured foursome matches, four-ball matches and singles matches, combining for a total of 12 points to be earned throughout the day. Bowling Green won the challenge by a score of 8-4.
• Three days later, BGSU won the 12-team Mid-American Match Play Challenge, defeating Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Florida Gulf Coast in the five-player match play event.
• Both events were hosted by Bowling Green in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
• To close the regular season, the Falcons turned in consecutive top-three finishes at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational and YSU Spring Invitational.
• The Falcons had a strong fall season, as well, highlighted by a championship at the 10-school field at the Shirley Spork Invitational in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
UP NEXT
• Bowling Green will next compete at the Cardinal Classic (Sept. 16-17).
• The two-day event is being hosted by Ball State in Yorktown, Indiana.
