Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program added two signees to the incoming freshman class for the 2021 season. Lindsey LaPinta and Mia Tyler will join the Falcons in the coming year. The duo will bring with them impressive resumes with a multitude of accomplishments. Coach Tomic's Take
"We are thrilled to officially welcome Lindsey and Mia to BGSU and our volleyball program. They both bring the character, academic excellence and volleyball potential we look for in our student-athletes. Our goal is that each signing class is better than the previous one, and we feel that we have accomplished that with our 2021 recruiting class. I want to thank my staff for their hard work, especially during these unprecedented times when we had to adjust our recruiting without sacrificing the quality of our work."
Lindsey LaPinta (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls HS)
A native of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Lindsey LaPinta has spent the last four years as a member of the Olmsted Falls High School volleyball team where she has served as the captain for the Bulldogs during both the 2019 and 2020 seasons. LaPinta also etched her name in the record books at Olmsted Falls, finishing second all-time for service aces and third all-time for digs. LaPinta also played for the Southwest Volleyball Club, being a two-time captain and two-time North Coast Power League MVP. In addition to volleyball, LaPinta was a competitve gymnast.
The daughter of Ross and Leanne LaPinta, Lindsey has one sister, Leah. Leah currently plays volleyball at Ursuline College. While at Bowling Green, she plans to major in Business with the plan to own her own business.
Coach Tomic's Take
"Lindsey is one of the best liberos in Ohio and will continue our tradition of having outstanding in-state defensive specialists which has become a trademark of BGSU Volleyball. Lindsey's athleticism matches her skills and relentless defensive effort and she will make an immediate impact on our team."
Mia Tyler (Louisville, Ky. / Atherton HS)
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Mia Tyler comes to Bowling Green following a three-year varsity career for the Atherton High School Rebels. While with the Rebels, Tyler helped lead Atherton to a third palace finish in regionals each of her three varsity seasons, including captaining the 2020 team.
At the season's conclusion, Tyler was named All-District by the KHSAA. She also registered the most kills in her conference in both 2019 and 2020. Additionally, Tyler played for the MAVA club teams, registering a .380 hitting percentage during the 2019-20 season.
The daughter of James and April Tyler, Mia has one sibling, Ahman. Her father, James Tyler, played basketball for Bowling Green, being a four-time letterwinner from 1985-1988. While at Bowling Green, Mia plans to study Exercise Science with the career goal of becoming a Physical Therapist.
Coach Tomic's Take
"Mia is a diamond in the rough who will take our already strong outside hitter position to the next level. She is a dynamic hitter, with a fast arm who will thrive in our competitive and team-oriented environment. The future is bright for Mia and we are excited to see her develop into one of the top outside hitters in the MAC."
