Falcons Look To Continue Win Streak Against Louisville Saturday
February 13, 2020 | Women's Tennis
Louisville, Ky. - The Bowling Green State University tennis program will once again be on the road this weekend, this time around traveling south to Louisville, Kentucky to face the Cardinals on Saturday (Feb. 15) with an 11 a.m. first serve. The Falcons are riding a bit of a hot streak of late, picking up back-to-back wins, coming against Youngstown State and Cleveland State by scores of 5-2 and 6-1 with the team's lone loss coming against Notre Dame. The match against Louisville will be the last of the current road trip for the Orange and Brown before returning to the home courts on Feb. 21 against St. Francis.Â
Last Time Out
The Falcons captured their second consecutive win this past Sunday, topping Cleveland State in a 6-1 final. Bowling Green swept doubles play and followed it up by claiming five of the six singles points as well. Of the singles matches against the Vikings, just two went to three sets, with the Orange and Brown coming away with both of those matches. The win came after Bowling Green also defeated Youngstown State by a score of 5-2 to push the team's record to 2-1 early in the season.
Competing Against The Cardinals
Louisville began their spring campaign with six straight wins that spanned from Jan. 17 until Jan. 31 before they fell to Furman on Feb. 2 by a score of 6-1, being their last match. Of their six wins, five were at home with their lone road win coming against Ball State. The Cardinals makeup consists of three seniors that led a group of two juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. In their last win, coming over Lipscomb, Louisville took the doubles point and four of the six singles points for a 5-2 win.Â
Checking The Record Book
For career singles wins, Ayumi Sasaki could take sole possession of 29th in program history with a win this weekend, which would increase her total to 49 over her time in the Orange and Brown. Fellow senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash could also take control of a spot, this time in career doubles wins needing one more to have 75 for seventh all-time. Similarly, Tavpash could move up the combined career wins list with the opportunity to move as high as 19th with two wins possible this weekend.Â
