
Falcons Collect DMR Title At Akron Invitational

Akron, Ohio – A distance medley relay team consisting of three true freshmen and a redshirt freshman posted the fourth-fastest time in BGSU history as the Bowling Green indoor track and field team competed in day one of the Akron Invitational Friday night.

THE DISTANCE MEDLEY RELAY
- A relay team consisting of true freshmen Kailee Perry, Anna Roach and Trinity Fowler, and anchored by redshirt freshman Katerina Shuble won the distance medley relay Friday night.
- The unit ran the event in 11:57.46, the fourth-fastest time in program history and the fastest since 2011.
- That time was less than two seconds shy of the third-fastest in program history. In 1999, Christine Thompson, Tracy Hill, Libby Mitchell and Hanane Sabri set the school record of 11:25.56, a mark which still stands today.
- The Falcons beat West Virginia by almost nine seconds and defeated fellow MAC opponent Western Michigan by more than 15 seconds.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- True freshman Destiny Fernandes took part in her first collegiate pentathlon, finishing fifth out of eight competitors with 3,073 points.
- Fernandes set her collegiate personal best in the shot put with a distance of 9.99m (32-feet-9.5). She also tied her collegiate best in the 60 hurdles (9.22 seconds) and the high jump (1.60m / 5-3).
- Brianna Richard placed fifth in the blue division (open field) long jump with a mark of 5.36m (17-7).
UP NEXT
- BGSU will open day two of competition at the Akron Invitational Saturday at 10:00 am with the 3000. The Falcons are scheduled to take part in 14 events Saturday.
