Falcons Hand Cleveland State First Loss En Route To Second Consecutive Win

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program clinched their second consecutive win on Sunday (Feb. 9) topping Cleveland State by a score of 6-1. The win also marks the second consecutive over the Vikings for the Falcons with them also claiming a win last year, 4-3. Bowling Green began the day by taking the doubles point, followed by five of the six singles points to secure the lead and eventual win. The Falcons are now 2-1 in the young spring season as they prepare to head to Louisville this coming Saturday.

Making Of The Match
- Jumping out to a 4-0 lead in No. 3 doubles, Sasaki and Silveira rolled that momentum into the first set victory of the day, concluding with a 6-2 win.
- The Falcons clinched the doubles point soon after seeing Tavpash and Bettineilli take the No. 1 Doubles win. After trailing a few times, the Falcon duo battled back to take the set and give the Falcons the early advantage.
- In singles play, the Orange and Brown added on to their advantage with Cleveland State forfeiting the No. 6 singles match, pushing the BGSU lead to 2-0.
- On the court for singles play, Sasaki carried her momentum from doubles over to singles, jumping to a 3-0 lead in the first set of No. 4 singles. That lead led to a 6-2 first set win followed by a closely fought 6-4 second set win to capture another point for the Falcons.
- Bowling Green then clinched the victory seeing a win by Kapitanova at No. 3 singles. Coming from behind in the first set, Kapitanova didn't look back after taking the lead, taking the sets 6-4 and 6-3.
- Tavpash tacked on another point for Bowling Green. After coming from behind in the first set, Tavpash came up short in the second set, but stormed back in the third set to take a commanding 6-1 set victory for the win.
- Tsadari had similar results at No. 2 singles, falling in the first set, but battling back in the second to force a third. After a close third set, Tsadari emerged with the win to close out the day for the Falcons.
Moving In The Record Book
- Capturing her 74th career doubles win, Tavpash jumped from a tie for ninth all-time on the all-time career doubles win list to a tie for seventh all-time.
- The win also moved her up the combined wins in program history, now with 125 over her four years, placing her at 21st all-time. With a singles win also on the day, Tavpash ended with 126 career wins combined, putting her in a tie for 20th all-time.
- Claiming a win in singles, Sasaki moved up on the singles all-time list. Registering her 48th career singles win, Sasaki moved up to tie Cameron Benjamin (2002-05) for 29th all-time in program history.

- "Very proud of the way the team fought from the very first point until the last today. Cleveland State just beat two conference teams, so we knew it was going to be a challenge with the doubles point to start. We maintained our focus and used that energy into singles play. Great win for us!"
Up Next
- The Falcons will take to the road for their next match, traveling to face Louisville on Feb. 15 with a 1 p.m. first serve.
- The Orange and Brown will return home on Feb. 21 against St. Francis University, which will also be a 1 p.m. start.
