Spring Breakdown: The Defensive Line
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Falcons return few experienced offensive linemen for the fall, but with redshirt senior Tim Tanner-Blair and redshirt junior Derek Downs, the Falcons have building blocks.
Â
Those two combined to start 23 games a year ago and the Falcons do have limited experience in other spots as well. For instance, redshirt junior Sam Neverov started five games in 2019.
Â
"Sam will be a real anchor for our team," offensive line coach Terry Malone said. Open spots due to graduation and attrition will give younger Falcons, like redshirt sophomore Cameron Stage an opportunity to earn a starting role.
Â
"Cameron is going to take a shot at center," Malone said. "He is a very good athlete and he has worked really hard to put himself in a position to help our team. He has had a really good winter and spring."
Â
Redshirt senior Joe Ware played in seven games in 2019 and redshirt sophomore John O'Brian played in four games. Another redshirt sophomore, Joe Maxwell, adds depth to the unit. Kellen Adler and Luke Harmon both redshirted during their freshmen campaigns, while Alex Wollschlaeger was an early enrollee for the spring semester.
Â
Malone added five other offensive linemen for the 2020 season in Jeremiah Banks-Wall, Gabriel Brown, Matt Fortner, Jalen Grant and Brian Kilbane Jr.
