BGSU achieves highest ranking since November of 1996
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team has moved up three spots in the United Soccer Coaches national rankings. The Falcons are ranked 14th in the country in the latest poll, released Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 19).
BGSU's No. 14 ranking is the program's highest since November 18, 1996, when the Falcons were also 14th in the land.
The Falcons are also ranked in the College Soccer News poll. BGSU moved up two spots to 18th on that list.
BGSUÂ moved up in the polls after going on the road and earning a draw with another nationally-ranked team last week. The Falcons went to DeKalb, Ill., and played Northern Illinois (No. 22 in last week's United Soccer Coaches poll) to a 1-1 tie. A Jacob Erlandson goal snapped NIU's shutout streak of more than 740 minutes.
For the second-straight week, the Falcons are ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches North Region rankings. BGSU trails only Maryland in the region.
Also for the second consecutive Tuesday, this week's North Region poll consists of five Mid-American Conference teams and five Big Ten Conference schools. In addition to the Falcons, other MAC schools in the poll include Northern Illinois (third), West Virginia (fifth), Akron (sixth) and Georgia State (ninth).
The Falcons are 9-2-2 on the season, and BGSU is off to a 2-0-1 start in the MAC.
BGSU will head to Northeast Ohio for a Friday matchup (Oct. 22) vs. the Zips. That contest will begin at 7:00 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium and will be streamed via ESPN3.
