Falcons Sweep MAC Awards After Three-Win Week

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday (Oct. 26) the MAC honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Bowling Green swept the MAC East awards, with Petra Indrova winning Offensive Player of the Week, Julia Walz winning Defensive Player of the Week, and Hanna Laube winning Setter of the Week. This is the third time the Falcons have swept the awards the season, with this trio earning two of the sweeps. Indrova have been recognized four times each, while Laube has been honored five times this season.
MAC Volleyball East Division Offensive Player of the Week
Petra Indrova, Bowling Green, Opposite Hitter
Petra Indrova helped the Bowling Green Falcons remain undefeated in MAC play with three wins last week. In Wednesday's sweep of Miami, Indrova tallied 11 kills and three total blocks, both tied for the team-high. Her attack percentage of .455 was the highest on the team among players with ten or more attacks. On Friday, the Falcons defeated Eastern Michigan in four sets behind Indrova's seventh double-double of the season. She led the team with 18 kills and registered 10 digs as well. The following night, BGSU beat EMU in four sets again, with Indrova earning another double-double. She matched her career-high with 22 kills and set a new season-best with 17 digs. The junior also added three aces as the Falcons secured their 12th consecutive victory.
MAC Volleyball East Division Defensive Player of the Week
Julia Walz, Bowling Green, Libero
Walz played a large role in another week of impressive BGSU defensive performances. The Falcons swept Miami on Wednesday, limiting the Redhawks to an attack percentage of just .010. BGSU was especially in the second set, holding Miami to a -.182 hitting percentage. Walz totaled 14 digs, as well as a season-best six assists. On Friday, the senior registered a team-best 17 digs in BGSU's four-set win against Eastern Michigan. The Falcons held the Eagles to a sub-.100 hitting percentage in two of the four sets. The following night, Bowling Green notched another four-set victory over EMU. In the second set, BGSU limited EMU to an attack percentage of -.154. Walz tallied 33 digs, including 10 in the final set, to notch her second-best total of the season. With that number, she eclipsed the career 1,500-dig mark.
MAC Volleyball East Division Setter of the Week
Hanna Laube, Bowling Green, Setter
Laube guided the Bowling Green Falcons to three wins this week, with several impressive offensive performances. Against Miami, the Falcons swung .621 in the opening set on their way to a sweep of the Redhawks. Laube tallied 24 assists and a career-best six kills. The senior collected 43 assists against Eastern Michigan as the Falcons swung .321 in their four-set victory. During this match, she eclipsed the 2,000-assist mark in her career. On Saturday, the Falcons won in four sets again, with Laube tallying 52 assists. This is the fourth time she has registered over 50 assists this season and it is her second-best total in MAC play.

The Falcons play of pair of road matches next weekend. On Friday, Oct. 29, the Falcons face MAC West leader Ball State at 6:30 p.m. They return to northwest Ohio the following night for a 6 p.m. match against Toledo.
