Walz, Laube Named MAC East Players of Week

CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday (Oct. 4) the MAC honors for volleyball for the past week of competition. Bowling Green won a pair MAC East awards, with Julia Walz winning Defensive Player of the Week and Hanna Laube winning Setter of the Week. This is the second time consecutive week Walz and Laube have been selected as MAC East Players of the Week.
MAC Volleyball East Division Defensive Player of the Week

Julia Walz was a key part of a Bowling Green defensive unit that limited Buffalo to a .119 hitting percentage over two matches. The Falcons swept both matches, holding the Bulls to a hitting percentage below .100 in three different sets. Walz tallied 15 digs on Friday and 21 digs on Saturday, both team-bests. Her mark of 21 ties her second-best of the season, and it is her highest total in three-set matches. The senior also logged six assists and two aces. Walz has been recognized twice this season and six times in her career.
MAC Volleyball East Division Setter of the Week

Hanna Laube guided an impressive Bowling Green offensive attack to consecutive sweeps of Buffalo this weekend. In the weekend's first match, Laube tallied 31 assists, five digs, and three kills. The following night, the senior logged 38 assists, the MAC's highest three-set total in conference play. She also notched two kills and four digs as the Falcons moved to 4-0 in the MAC. Laube has won three times this season and seven times in her career.
This weekend, the Falcons will host two MAC opponents in the Stroh Center. They begin by hosting Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8. On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Falcons will host Western Michigan.
