THE WEEK AHEAD
MEN'S BASKETBALL (10-7, 6-5Â MAC)
Wednesday, Feb. 3 vs. Western Michigan, 7:00 pm | ESPN3 or ESPN+ | Radio | @BGSUMHoops
Bowling Green hosts Western Michigan on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Falcons were originally scheduled to play at Eastern Michigan on Tuesday, but the EMU program is now on a pause. Fifth-year senior Justin Turner has scored 1,934 points and is now just five points away from becoming BGSU's all-time leading scorer. Fellow senior Daeqwon Plowden is seven points shy of becoming the 49th player in school history to eclipse 1,000 career points, while senior Trey Diggs needs 19 points to reach 1,000 collegiate points. BGSU is 6-5 in league play on the season and 10-7 overall.Â
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (13-3, 9-2 MAC)
Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Northern Illinois, 7:00 pm ET | ESPN+ | Radio | Live Stats | @BGSUWbb
Saturday, Feb. 6 vs. Ohio, 12:00 pm | ESPN3/+ | Radio | Live Stats | @BGSUWbb
The women's basketball Falcons, riding a five-game winning streak, begin an arduous February schedule with a trip to the MAC's 'West Coast' to face Northern Illinois Wednesday night. BGSU is 9-2 in the MAC, but one of the two losses came to the Huskies. Then, the Brown and Orange will return home to face perennial conference power Ohio on Saturday afternoon at the Stroh Center. Wednesday's game in DeKalb will begin at 7:00 p.m. ET, while Saturday's OU matchup is slated for a 12:00 p.m. start. Last week, the Falcons picked up double-digit home wins over Western Michigan and Toledo. Sophomore Elissa Brett averaged 15.0 points per game last week to pace a balanced BG attack, and she shot over 70 percent from the field in the two wins. Brett tied her career high with 17 points in Wednesday's win over Western, and hit a career-high three three-pointers in that game. She matched her long-range output three days later, going 3-of-4 from the arc as the Falcons downed Toledo, 76-59. BG's post players were dominant against the Rockets, as Angela Perry had 18 points in just over 14 minutes of action, while Clare Glowniak had eight points in just over nine minutes of work. The Falcons swept both regular-season games in the 'Battle of I-75" this season. That win was BGSU's 13th of the season, three more than the total for all of last year, and the Falcons have tripled (!!) last year's MAC victory total. Each of this week's games are slated to be streamed via ESPN 3/+, with BGRSO scheduled to have the call for both games as well.
VOLLEYBALL (4-0, 4-0 MAC)
Thursday, Feb. 4 vs. Miami, 6:00 pm | ESPN3/+ | Radio | Live Stats | @BGSUVolleyball
Friday, Feb. 5 vs. Miami, 5:00 pm | ESPN3/+ | Radio | Live Stats | @BGSUVolleyball
The BGSUÂ volleyball team will return to the Stroh Center this week to host Miami on both Thursday and Friday (Feb. 4 and 5). The Falcons will enter the two-match series against Miami riding a 4-0 start to the season with all the matches being within the Mid-American Conference. The 4-0 start in the MAC is the best for the Falcons since the 2012 season when the team began 8-0 in MAC play. Additionally, the 4-0 start to the season is the best to begin a season since the 2011 campaign when the Orange and Brown started out 12-0, a program-best. As for the opposition, Miami will enter 3-1 after splitting with Akron last weekend.Â
GYMNASTICS (0-3, 0-2Â MAC)
Friday, Feb. 5 vs. Central Michigan, 5:00 pm | Live Stream | Live Stats | @FalconGymn
After three consecutive road meets to begin the season, BGSU Gymnastics will host Central Michigan for its home opener Friday evening. After some early season struggles in filling lineups, Bowling Green is on the path to returning to full strength. CMU is traditionally one of the top gymnastics programs in the MAC and will look to remain near the top of the standings, but are off to an 0-2 start. Vault will be an interesting individual match-up as CMU's Hannah Demers is ranked first in the MAC, while BGSU's Elena Lawson is third.Â
#8Â HOCKEY (16-4-0, 5-1-0-0 WCHA)
Friday, Feb. 5 at Minnesota State, 8:07 pm ET | FloHockey | Radio | Live Stats | @BGFalconHockey
Saturday, Feb. 6 at Minnesota State, 7:07 pm ET | FloHockey | Radio | Live Stats | @BGFalconHockey
The Bowling Green hockey team will partake in a Top 10 matchup this weekend, traveling to face No. 3 Minnesota State. The Falcons and Mavericks will head into the series as the top two teams in the WCHA standings with Bowling Green trailing Minnesota State by two points. For the Falcons, they will enter after capturing a weekend sweep over No. 18 Michigan Tech last week to advance to 16-4 through the first 20 games. In the series against Michigan Tech, Connor Ford and Brandon Kruse paced the Falcons with four points each seeing Ford net three goals and an assist with Kruse having the reverse in one goal and three assists. As for Minnesota State, they will enter the series after falling short against Bemidji State last weekend in a non-conference matchup.Â
SWIMMING & DIVING (0-2, 0-2 MAC)
Saturday, Feb. 6 at Toledo, 11:00 am | @FalconSwimDive
The Bowling Green swimming & diving team travels up north to take on rival Toledo. This is the start of a stretch of three consecutive away meets. BG is looking to bounce back after a close loss (188.5-179.5) Friday to a talented Eastern Michigan team. Almost exactly a year ago BG had a tough loss (199-154) to this Toledo team. Daisy Platts, who ranks first in the MAC in both the 50 backstroke and the 100 backstroke, and the Falcons will begin Saturday at 11:00 am.Â
TRACK & FIELD (1-0)
Saturday, Feb. 6 at Central Michigan, All Day | @BG_XCTrack
After hosting three consecutive meets to open the season, the Bowling Green track & field program will head to Central Michigan for the Jack Skoog Invitational. CMU is also the host of the MAC Indoor Championships and will provide the program with a first look at that environment. BGSU enters the meet with the top-ranked 200 runner (Ryen Draper) in the MAC and a trio of athletes ranked second, including Jemeila Hunter (200), Kailee Perry (mile) and Zaresha Neal (shot put).
WOMEN'S SOCCERÂ (0-0, 0-0 MAC)
Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Wright State, 3:00 pm (Scrimmage) | @bgsuwsoc
The women's soccer Falcons, the two-time defending Mid-American Conference champions, have seen some changes to the schedule in recent days, and BGSU is now slated to travel to Dayton for a Wednesday afternoon scrimmage vs. Wright State. Jimmy Walker was named head coach of the Falcons just over a year ago -- Jan. 24, 2020, to be exact -- and other than a few intra-squad scrimmages this past fall, the team has not taken the pitch since his hiring. BGSU last played a match on Nov. 15, 2019, with a narrow loss at Michigan in the NCAA Championships. The Falcons scored a school-record 46 goals during that 2019 season, en route to winning the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles for the second-straight year. BG is 41-18-7 overall during the last three seasons..
