
DMR Wins MAC Title As BGSU Track Sets Foundation On Day One

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University track and field team closed out day one of the MAC Championships with an impressive race in the distance medley relay, earning the program's first championship in the event. The Falcons also set themselves up for success on day two by pushing five runners into finals through preliminary races Friday. BGSU sits in seventh place with 13 points after the opening day of competition.

Day One Results
DMR WINS MAC TITLE
- Katerina Shuble, Jazzlynn Gaiters, Trinity Fowler and Kailee Perry posted the second-fastest 4000m distance medley relay time in school history and won the MAC Championship at 11:38.02.
- The Falcons led the race wire-to-wire but were challenged right to the end, winning by .16 seconds.
- For all four, it is their first track and field MAC Championship. Perry was the MAC individual cross country championship in the fall of 2020.
- The same four ran the DMR a year ago and placed fourth with a time of 11:45.12, more than seven seconds slower than this year.
- It is the first time in program history that a Bowling Green DMR team has won the MAC championship.
ON THE PODIUM
- Junior Sydney Niekamp shattered her personal best in the 5000 to place sixth in the 5000. She ran a time of 17:21.12, which was more than 21 seconds faster than she ran just 14 days ago at Grand Valley State and 19 seconds faster than her personal best.
HEADING TO FINALS
- Iyanna Ross, who holds the school record in the 400, qualified for the finals with a time of 56.81 seconds. That time tied for the second-fastest in the prelims and was just 0.2 seconds shy of the fastest.
- Savannah Nevels was comfortably seeded fourth in the 60 entering the day, but she set a new personal best with a time of 7.55 seconds to win her heat and make finals with the second-fastest time of the prelims. That time moves her into fifth in program history in the event.
- Three Falcons are headed to the finals in the 200. Nevels ran the best time of the trio at 24.84 seconds, while Jemeila Hunter posted a season-best 24.92 seconds. Ryen Draper, who entered as the No. 2 seed, ran a time of 25.07.
NOTABLE RESULTS
- Freshman Izzy Klett, making her first MAC Championship appearance, placed 10th in the long jump with a distance of 18-feet-1.75 (5.53m). She entered as the No. 10 seed and was less than three inches shy of her collegiate personal best.
- In the 400, freshman Darian Braddix finished four spots above her No. 20 seed. Braddix ended 16th in 59.77 seconds.
- In the 60, freshman Ayanna Tommy set a new personal best time of 7.65 seconds and tied for ninth overall.
- Also in the 60, sophomore Jemeila Hunter was 12th with a personal best time of 7.68 seconds.
- Jessi Lindstrom recorded a season-best time of 2:20.23 in the 800. She finished one spot ahead of her No. 16 seed.

- Bowling Green will take part in day two of the MAC Championships Saturday beginning at 4:00 pm.
