Last Time Out: Falcons Comeback To Sweep MiamiÂ
Last week the Falcons were able to come away with two victories over Miami at the Stroh Center. After accomplishing a sweep the first night of the series, Bowling Green rallied back from down 2-0 to top Miami in five-sets with a 3-2 final. During Thursday's (Feb. 4) three-set win, the Falcons looked dominant in the first set with a 25-13 victory. Miami battled back in the second and third sets, but the Orange and Brown were able to secure scores of 25-23 and 25-21. In that match, the Falcons were paced by a total of seven team blocks, accompanied by seven aces. As for Friday's contest (Feb. 5) Miami was able to take the first two sets, setting up the first comeback of the season for the Falcons. Narrowly missing the first set after forcing extra points, Bowling Green took the next three sets to capture the series sweep. Two different Falcons registered double-doubles in the contest while the team totaled 15 blocks at the net.Â
Among The Nation's BestÂ
Through the first three weeks of the season for the Falcons, junior outside hitter Katelyn Meyer has found her name among the nation's best statistically. So far this season, Meyer is averaging 4.41 kills per set, having totaled 97 over 22 sets to place her 27th in the nation. Meyer's pace for attacks per set, coming in at 11.82, isn't too far behind at 33rd in the nation.
Among The Nation's Best: Part IIÂ
Katelyn Meyer isn't the only Falcon putting her name on the national charts. Junior setter Hanna Laube is currently 23rd in the nation for assists per set, averaging 11.73. This comes after Laube logged her first double-double of the season with 53 assists and 13 digs against Miami, both new career-high marks. So far this season, Laube has totaled 247 assists, already setting a new career-high for single-season assists.
Indrova Driving Falcons ForwardÂ
If you take a look at most of the statistics for Bowling Green so far this season, one name is consistently on the list for almost every stat. Petra Indrova. Through the first six matches, Indrova has been able to do a little bit of everything, including log three of the four double-doubles the team has had this year. So far, Indrova is first on the team in aces, second in kills, second in digs, third in blocks and fourth in assists. Indrova is also nearing a new career-high for digs in a single season. Last year she totaled 80 over the course of the season. Currently, she already has 67 through the first six matches, now needing just 14 to set a new career-high early in the campaign.Â
For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since the 2012 season Bowling Green is out to a 6-0 start in Mid-American Conference matches. The 2012 season saw the Falcons begin with an 8-0 standing in the conference, going on to win the MAC Tournament later that season and advance to the team's most recent NCAA appearance. Additionally, the 6-0 start is the best to begin the season since the 2011 season. In that campaign the Orange and Brown jumped out to a record-setting 12-0 start with the streak ending with the first MAC match of the season. Only two teams have started the season better than the Falcons. Texas is currently 14-0 while Kentucky is 10-0. Four other teams are 6-0 as well, being Minnesota, Utah, Western Kentucky and Wisconsin.Â
