Now, the Falcons will turn their attention to the Akron Zips, who enter at 4-13. The Falcons have won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams with the last coming on Nov. 9, 2019 and ended in a 3-0 sweep for the Falcons. With just five games left on the schedule, the Falcons are aiming to be the top seed in the MAC Tournament.
Opposing AkronÂ
On the other side of the court this weekend will be the Akron Zips. The Zips will enter with a 4-13 record, having lost their last three matches, including being swept in their last two, once by Western Michigan and once by Buffalo. As for Akron's four wins, they tallied five-set wins over Miami and Ohio as well as a four-setter against Eastern Michigan and a three-set sweep over Northern Illinois. In addition to the 4-13 overall record, the Zips are just 1-8 on the road with their lone win being the sweep over NIU. Â
For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since, well, ever a BGSU program has reached 16-0 to begin a season. The mark now stands as the best start in BGSU Athletic department history, surpassing the 15-0 record of the 1964 men's tennis team. Now, the record to watch for the Falcons will be the volleyball program's all-time consecutive win streak, set at 17 matches during the 2006 campaign.Â
Nearing The Top 25Â
The Falcons once again saw their vote total increase in the latest AVCA poll, now up to a program-best 14 votes. Currently, the poll shows Florida State ranked 25th with 58 votes followed by Missouri with 29 and then Bowling Green. Just one team in the country holds a better record than the 16-0 Falcons, being No. 2 Texas who is currently 20-0. No. 3 Kentucky is currently 16-0 as well, matching the record of the Falcons.Â
Closing In On 1,000 KillsÂ
Katelyn Meyer is nearing the millennium mark for kills over her career in the Orange and Brown, currently with 955 with the Falcons. So far this season Meyer has a team-high 229 kills with an average of 3.98 kills per set. As a freshman, Meyer landed 267 kills before nearly doubling that number as a sophomore with 459 during the 2019 campaign. Meyer has also watched her hitting percentage go up, currently registering a career-best .252 mark this year.Â
Kidwell Moves Up In The Record BookÂ
With six block assists against Toledo, Katie Kidwell brought her total blocks career total to 466, tying her for fifth all-time in program history with Lisa Berardinelli. Next up on the list will be surpassing Tammy Schiller's 486 total blocks that she tallied from 1988-91. As for career block assists, Kidwell currently has 403, needing just 11 to move up to second all-time. The program record is currently held by Kendra Halm who registered 443 block assists from 2005-08. To pass Halm, Kidwell still needs 41 block assists.Â
