Falcons' Historic Run Comes To A Close With First Loss In 473 Days

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program came up short for the first time this season with their first loss in 473 days, bringing their win streak to a close at 18 straight to begin the season. Against Toledo, the Falcons went to five sets in the 3-2 final. Bowling Green will move to 18-1 on the season with two matches left in the regular season, being against Buffalo this coming weekend. From there, the Orange and Brown will look towards the MAC Tournament, of which they will be the host and top seed, set for April 2 and 3.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- The first set began close as the two teams traded points up to the media timeout with the Rockets up 15-10.Â
- Out of the timeout, the two teams resumed a back-and-forth set that ended with Toledo up 25-19.Â
- In the second set, the Falcons regrouped for an early 6-0 run to take the lead at 9-6, keeping the lead up to the media timeout with the score at 15-11.Â
- The Falcons were able to hold the lead through the remainder of the set for the 25-20 final score to even the match at a set apiece.Â
- In the third set, the two teams were close again up to the media timeout when a 4-0 lead reclaimed the lead for the Falcons at 15-13 heading into the break.Â
- The Falcons were able to add to the lead through the set with action being paused by a Toledo timeout with the score at 21-17.Â
- Despite a late push by the Rockets, the Falcons were able to come away with the third set for a 2-1 match lead.Â
- In the fourth set, UT gained a lead at 5-4 and was able to hold that up to the final point of the set with a 25-18 score to force a fifth set.Â
- Moving to the fifth set, the two teams battled early having a tie as late as 9-9, but a 4-0 run for the Rockets gave them a 12-9 lead that led to the win.Â
Falcon Stat FactsÂ
- The loss is the first for the Falcons since Dec. 6, 2019, leaving 473 days between losses while riding an 18-match win streak that marked the most consecutive wins in program history as well as the best start in the history of the BGSU Athletic department.Â
- In kills, the Falcons saw three different players reach double-digits on the night with Jacqueline Askin and Katelyn Meyer both having 18. With the 18 kills, Meyer now has 999 over her time with the Falcons, needing one more to reach 1,000 career kills.
- Petra Indrova also had double-digit kills with 14 to go along with 13 digs, tied for the team lead. The double-double was the 10th of the season for Indrova.Â
- Indrova was tied with Kerstie Shaw for the team-lead in digs. Shaw's 13 set a season-high for her.Â
- With a solo block and four block assists, Nikolija Katanic reached a few new single-season highs. The solo block gave Katanic four on the season, tying her mark from last season. As for the block assists, she now has 35 on the season, setting a new career-high for a single season as well as 38 total blocks surpassing her 35 from last season as well.Â
- For assists, Hanna Laube returned to the lineup for the Falcons with 49 assists over the five sets along with five dig, three block assists and two kills.Â

Up NextÂ
- The Falcons will conclude the regular season this weekend with two matches against Buffalo on Friday and Saturday (March 26 and 27). Friday's match is set for a 6 p.m. start while Saturday will be 2 p.m. with both matches being streamed on ESPN+.Â
