MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan University took both games of a Mid-American Conference doubleheader from the Bowling Green State University baseball team on Sunday (April 11). CMU won the games by scores of 5-1 and 13-4. The Chippewas hosted the four-game series this weekend at Theunissen Stadium.
Â
Nathan Rose and Ryan Johnston recorded hits for the Falcons in the first game of the day, while Tyler Haas scored Bowling Green's run. Logan Bell stood out on the mound, firing 4.1 innings of one-hit, one-run baseball. Bell punched out two and gave way to Levi Gazarek, who picked up the final two outs of the ballgame for the Orange and Brown's pitching staff.
Â
In the second game of the day, the Falcons fought out of an early 4-1 deficit, scoring three times in the third to knot the game. However, the Chippewas broke the game open with an eight-run bottom of the third. Kyle Gurney homered in BG's three-run frame, while Anthony Ryan and Jack Krause drove home runs with singles. Jared Johnson put the Falcons on the board first with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
Â
Will MacLean and Joel Roediger finished the weekend strong for the Falcons, holding the Chippewas without a hit over the final 5.1 innings. MacLean tossed 3.1-hitless innings with four strikeouts. Roediger did not allow a hit across a pair of innings on the bump.
Â
The Falcons take a 7-9 conference record into next weekend's four-game home series versus Miami University. The series opener is set for 3:05 p.m. on Friday (April 16) at Steller Field at Gary Haas Stadium. All four games will be streamed for free on YouTube.

COACH HALLOCK QUOTE
"Game 1 was well pitched by Logan Bell and Levi Gazarek. They had mound presence and got after hitters. They pitched ahead and with authority once they got the count in their favor, and that was big to see from two freshmen. We created some offense early on in Game 2, which was good. A lot of guys competed at the plate in those early innings to create some traffic. Anthony Ryan was a guy between both games that had good, consistent at bats all day. I'm really happy for him because he's waited his turn and deserved to experience some good individually. Will MacLean and Joel Roediger were on Bell and Gazarek's level of presence, tempo and attitude. They pitched with something to prove. Baseball isn't a sport where there's an end of a quarter break or halftime to regroup. It's constantly moving. It doesn't wait for you to take a break and figure things back out. We have to move with it on the fly. The next step our program has to make is to move with it on the mound, in the field and at the plate. When crunch time comes up, it's the BG warrior in all of us that must come out and be on display to get us over the top."
