Several weeks ago, a total of 60 NCAA® men's and women's soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as candidates for the award. Those lists included 30 men's soccer and 30 women's soccer candidates Sullivan and Achille Robin each were named candidates at that time, making BGSU the only school with two student-athletes among the 30 candidates for the men's soccer award. On Wednesday, those lists were trimmed to the 10 men's and 10 women's finalists.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.
Sullivan, a native of Naperville, Ill. (North), leads the Falcons in goals, assists and points this season. He has 10 points through eight matches, and two of his three goals have been game-winning goals. With four assists, Sullivan has been directly involved in the scoring of seven of BGSU's eight goals. Both of his GWG have come against Mid-American Conference opponents, as he scored a 'Golden Goal' vs. SIUE on March 14, then found the back of the net midway through the second half at Northern Illinois one week later (March 21). In each case, Sullivan's strike was the only goal of the match. Sullivan has 45 career points in 62 matches as a Falcon, including 33 points in 29 matches since the start of the 2019 season.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 3. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2021 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup® championships in May.
