Defending MAC Champions Announce 2021 Schedule
July 02, 2021 | Men's Soccer
BGSU men's soccer will host eight regular-season matches this fall
Bowling Green State University men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has announced his team's schedule for the 2021 season. The defending Mid-American Conference champions will play an 18-match regular-season slate that includes eight contests inside the friendly confines of Cochrane Stadium.
The Falcons' 2021 home slate includes a match against the defending national champion, Marshall. BGSU will face the Thundering Herd on Saturday, Sept. 11. All eight of the Falcons' home regular-season matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
The home schedule includes MACÂ matches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern, the league's two newest affiliate members for men's soccer, as well as Western Michigan. In addition to Marshall, BGSU will also host IUPUI, Wright State, FIU and Detroit Mercy in non-conference play.
The FIU match, on Friday, Sept. 17, is part of the program's Alumni Weekend.
BGSU's conference road games see the Falcons take on Northern Illinois, Akron and West Virginia. In non-league play, BG travels to Gonzaga, Cleveland State, Michigan State, Canisius, Ohio State, Purdue Fort Wayne and Oakland.
Prior to the regular-season opener vs. IUPUI (Aug. 26), the Brown and Orange will play scrimmages vs. Michigan at home (Aug. 13) and Xavier on the road (Aug. 20).
The MAC Tournament returns after a one-year hiatus, with the semifinals scheduled for Nov. 10 and the final slated for Nov. 13.

The Falcons won the MAC regular-season title and advanced to the NCAA Championships in the spring of 2021. BGSUÂ ended the season ranked No. 30 in the final College Soccer News poll, and the Falcons also were 30th (the fifth team among 'also receiving votes') in the United Soccer Coaches rankings.
BGSU wound up third in the final United Soccer Coaches North Region poll, and Nichols and his staff were named the North Region Staff of the Year.
The Falcons captured MAC's regular-season championship outright for the first time since 1996 and just the second time since the MAC began sponsoring the sport in '93. The Falcons advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1997.
BGSU went 5-2-1 in conference play, including a 3-0-1 mark at Cochrane Stadium, and BG has an overall record of 25-14-4 in the last 43 matches, dating to late in the 2018 season.
