Erlandson, Lacerda and Martinez Join Defending MAC Champions for 2021 Season
Bowling Green State University men's soccer head coach Eric Nichols and his staff have announced the addition of three transfers to the program. Josh Erlandson, Daniel Lacerda and Sergi Martinez will join the defending Mid-American Conference champions in time for the 2021 season.
"These guys had other good options, but they are very focused in on what they want and they chose Bowling Green for our culture and their desire to win trophies," said Nichols.
Erlandson, a defender, comes to BGSU from Huntington (Ind.) University, and has three years of eligibility remaining. Lacerda, a native of Portugal, has three years of eligibility remaining as well, while Martinez, from the University of Hartford, has two years of eligibility remaining.
Erlandson, a native of Waynesville, Ohio (Dayton Christian), played in all 35 of Huntington's matches during his two seasons with the Foresters. The younger brother of 2020 All-MAC First-Team selection Jacob Erlandson, Josh teamed with Jacob to help HU to a 15-5-3 overall record in 2019.
That 2019 club posted 10 shutouts on the year, went 6-2-1 in Crossroads League action and won the league tournament championship, earning the CL's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament for the second-straight season.Â
Erlandson played in all 23 matches, making 21 starts, in that 2019 season, helping the Foresters lead the league in fewest goals allowed per game (0.78).
As a sophomore in 2020, he started all 12 contests as HU went 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in league play. He scored four points on a pair of goals, with both goals coming against Bethel on Oct. 26.
Lacerda, a native of Lisbon, Portugal, attended IADE - Creative University. A defender, he has played for teams including Real SC, Boavista FC, CD Tondela and FC Famalicao. Most recently, Lacerda played for FC Alverca in both 2019-20 and '20-21, and also played for CD Fatima SAD last year.
Martinez, a native of Barcelona, Spain (Eugeni Xammar), played three seasons at Hartford. He started all seven of the team's matches in the abbreviated 2020-21 academic year. Martinez played in 643 of the 666 total minutes on the season, and tied for second on the team in scoring, with three points.
All three of those points came in a 3-2 overtime win over Binghamton, as he recorded a goal and an assist in the victory.
As a sophomore in 2019, Martinez appeared in 21 games, making starts in 20 contests, and finished third on the Hawks in scoring. His nine points included three goals and three assists. He found the back of the net against Brown and Binghamton, with the latter goal coming in an America East Tournament quarterfinal-round win.
Then, Martinez led the Hawks past Vermont in the semifinals, as he was involved in the scoring of all three goals with a goal and two assists in that 3-2 victory. Hartford finished the season with a 12-5-4 record.
An America East All-Rookie Team selection in 2018, Martinez appeared in 15 matches, making 12 starts, and had seven points on the year. He scored goals vs. Vermont and Rutgers, adding an assist in the latter match. Martinez tied for the team lead with three assists on the year, and was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Sept. 10 of that season.
Martinez was a multiple-year selection to the America East Academic Honor Roll.
