Former Falcon Andy Gaytan Signs Pro Contract With Joliet Slammers
July 06, 2021 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Andy Gaytan, a graduating senior on the 2021 Bowling Green State University baseball team, has signed a professional contract to play with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League. Based out of Joliet, Illinois, the Slammers won the league's championship in 2018.
A native of Oak Forest, Illinois, Gaytan graduated from Bowling Green this summer after majoring in liberal studies. A graduate transfer from Chicago State, Gaytan proved to be a key cog in BGSU's outfield this season, starting 29 games and playing his best baseball down the stretch. Gaytan collected 22 hits and batted .314 over BGSU's final 23 ballgames.
In the first season under the direction of Kyle Hallock, the Falcons posted a 20-win season for the first time since 2015. The Orange and Brown racked up 18 conference wins, marking the most for the program since 2010. Bowling Green closed the season by winning six of its final seven contests.
GAYTAN ON HIS TIME AT BOWLING GREEN
"I loved BG, honestly I wish I had more time at the University. The town, and the community really make this place something special. I created memories here that will last a lifetime and that I'll never forget. As for the baseball program, my approach and perspective of the game changed dramatically in just my short time as a Falcon. There's a sense of pride when you step into that locker room and put on that uniform. I'm really excited to see the strides that BG Baseball is going to make over the next couple of years. Coach Hallock and the staff are really passionate about the game and what this program means to the community. This program will not only prepare your son for the next level of baseball, but will teach him life lessons and values that any man should carry with him the rest of his life. Go Falcons." -- Andy Gaytan
