January 19, 2022 | Baseball
TOLEDO, Ohio – The baseball programs at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo announced Wednesday (Jan. 19) that they will play at Fifth Third Field, home of the Toledo Mud Hens, on Tuesday, May 10 at 7:05 p.m. The game will mark the second annual game between the Rockets and Falcons played in Downtown Toledo. The baseball edition of the Battle of I-75 rivalry series was first played at Fifth Third Field in 2021.
Bowling Green will serve as the home team in 2022. Toledo did so in the inaugural season of the game last year with the home team designation alternating between the two universities in subsequent seasons.
The game at Fifth Third Field will mark the conclusion of a five-game weekend series in the Battle of I-75, hosted by the Falcons. The series is set to begin on May 6 with a 3:05 p.m. first pitch at Stellar Field in Bowling Green. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 12:05 p.m., before rounding out the weekend on Sunday (May 8) with a 1:05 p.m. start.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at https://www.milb.com/toledo/tickets/battle-of-i-75. General admission tickets are available for $8 and special student-priced tickets are available for $5 with the use of a promo code. Concessions will be available at the game. Mud Hens Executive Vice President and General Manager Erik Ibsen: "The Toledo Mud Hens are committed to promoting baseball at all levels of play from Little League to the collegiate level. We have worked to bring this rivalry game to Fifth Third Field and we are excited to showcase these two Division I programs and players not only this year but in the years to come."
Bowling Green Head Coach Kyle Hallock: "We are excited to continue our annual Battle of I-75 game at Fifth Third Field. It was an entertaining and well attended contest last year. This event is supported greatly by the local area. We're very appreciative of the Toledo Mud Hens and their hospitality of allowing this game at their field. Come on out again to cheer on two good teams in a pro ballpark on Tuesday, May 10th. Go Falcons!"
Toledo Head Coach Rob Reinstetle: "I'm really excited to once again take the Battle of I-75 downtown and play at Fifth Third Field. Last year's game was a huge success for everyone involved. It was a great experience for the players and the city of Toledo to come together and watch college baseball at a first-class ballpark. We had over 2,500 fans come out to the game and it just proves that the baseball community in Northwest Ohio is really strong. We'd like to offer a special thank you to the Toledo Mud Hens for making this game happen again. I expect this year's contest to surpass last year's and for this event to continue to grow."
