THE OPENING TIP – STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• After being idle for 11 days, the Falcons are now scheduled to play four games in eight days. That busy stretch began with Wednesday night's (Jan. 19) 92-68 win over Central Michigan at the Stroh Center.
• Six Falcons scored in double digits vs. the Chippewas, with a total of eight different players scoring at least eight points apiece. BGSU had not had six double-figure scorers in a game in nearly 15 years, since a win at Kent State on Feb. 20, 2007.
• The Falcons' point total against CMU was BG's largest in a MAC game in almost 11 years, since a victory over Buffalo on March 2, 2011. That game, which also ended in a 92-68 score, was the final women's basketball game played at venerable Anderson Arena.
• Saturday's game at Ohio features the teams picked to finish first and second in the MAC standings, according to the 2021-22 preseason coaches' poll. The Bobcats were picked to win the conference, with the Falcons tabbed for second.
• With a team-high 15 points in Wednesday's win, Kadie Hempfling now has 957 career points. If our math is correct (and for once we believe it is), Hempfling needs 43 more points to become just the 29th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
• BGSU is now 16-6 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, including a 10-3 mark at the Stroh Center and a 6-3 record in conference road games.
• With a total of 219 three-pointers made in her career, Madisen Parker sits in fourth place on that BGSU list. Her next target is Tracy Pontius (2007-11), who hit 235 triples in her storied Falcon career.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE BOBCATS
• Ohio is 8-5 on the season, and the Bobcats are 2-2 in MAC play. Ohio saw a two-game winning streak snapped on Monday, with a 63-60 loss at Miami. The 'Cats are 4-1 at home, 2-4 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site games this season to date.
• Cierra Hooks and Erica Johnson have 22.6 and 18.3 points per game, respectively. Hooks, who recently broke the Ohio career scoring record, also has a team-high 7.8 rebounds per contest, while Johnson has 6.3 boards and 5.2 assists per game. Head coach Bob Boldon welcomed back all 14 letterwinners, including five starters, from a 2020-21 club that went 15-10 overall and 11-6 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Ohio, 57-32, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured the last two meetings, including a 69-53 victory at the Stroh in last season's lone matchup (Feb. 6, 2021). The Bobcats have won the last six meetings in Athens, with a 79-69 win in BG's most recent trip to the Convo two years ago (Jan. 25, 2020). BGSU is 33-10 in home games, 21-20 in road contests and 3-2 in neutral-site affairs vs. the Bobcats over the years.
• More information on the BGSU-Ohio series can be found on page 20 of the PDF version of these notes, which can be found near the top of this page.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Ohio game, the Falcons are slated to return to the road on Monday (Jan. 24), facing Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti. Then, the Orange and Brown will return home to meet Western Michigan at the Stroh Center on Wednesday (Jan. 26). Both the EMU and WMU contests are scheduled to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
• Barring any (more) schedule changes, the Falcons' remaining January schedule is as follows...
