THE OPENING TIP
• The Falcons were idle for 11 days and now play five games over the next 11 days (including a stretch of four games in eight days). BGSU returned to the court on Wednesday night (Jan. 19) and downed Central Michigan, 92-68, at the Stroh Center, before falling at Ohio by an 85-70 count.
• Kadie Hempfling led the Falcons in scoring in each of those two games, with 15 points vs. CMU and 21 – just one shy of her career best – at Ohio. Hempfling now has a career total of 978 points as a Falcon, and needs 22 more points to become just the 29th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
• Madisen Parker hit four three-point field goals en route to a season-high 14 points at Ohio. She now has made a total of 223 triples in her career, good for fourth place on that BGSU list. Parker's next target is Tracy Pontius (2007-11), who hit 235 treys in her storied Falcon career.
• BGSU is now 16-7 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 16-7 record includes a 10-3 mark at the Stroh Center and a 6-4 ledger in conference road games.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE EAGLES
• Eastern Michigan is 4-9 on the season, and the Eagles are 1-5 in MAC play. EMU is looking to snap a four-game losing streak, with three of those losses by 10 points or fewer. Most recently, Eastern fell, 85-76, to Northern Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 22). The Eagles are 4-4 at home, 0-4 on the road and 0-1 in neutral-site games to date.
• Areanna Combs leads the team in scoring, with 16.6 points per game, while Danielle Rainey and Ce'Nara Skanes have 14.0 and 12.2 ppg, respectively. Rainey has hit a team-leading 40 three-point field goals, while Skanes has an EMU-best 8.1 rebounds per contest. Head coach Fred Castro welcomed back a total of 12 players from a 2020-21 club that went 10-10 overall and 7-7 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Eastern Michigan, 53-20, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured the last two meetings, including a 71-64 victory at the Stroh Center in last season's regular-season matchup (Dec. 11, 2020) and a 63-47 decision in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament in Cleveland (March 10, 2021). The Eagles have won each of the last four meetings in Ypsilanti, including a 78-61 victory two years ago (Jan. 4, 2020). BGSU is 29-6 in home games, 20-13 in road contests and 4-1 in neutral-site affairs vs. Eastern over the years.
