Senior defender also named to College Soccer News National Team of the Week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) – Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Josh Erlandson has been named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. The conference office made the announcement on Tuesday morning (Nov. 1).
The senior earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career. In addition to the MAC accolade, Erlandson was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday (Oct. 31).
Erlandson, a native of Dayton, Ohio (Dayton Christian), had two goals as the Falcons picked up a 3-1 road win against Northern Illinois in last week's lone match.
Erlandson, in his second season as a Falcon, entered the match with one career goal in 19 matches in a BG uniform. But, he scored what would prove to be the winning goal, knocking home a deflected shot after a BG corner kick for a 2-0 advantage in the 36th minute.
Then, after the Huskies scored with under nine minutes to go in the match, Erlandson scored just 80 seconds later, getting his head on a diagonal ball in the box to restore the Falcons' two-goal lead. He now has three goals and seven points – all coming this season – in his BGSU career.
Erlandson shared the MAC honor with Akron's Jason Shokalook.
The Falcons, 5-4-5 overall and 3-1-2 in MAC play, head to Kalamazoo for a key conference contest against Western Michigan on Wednesday (Nov. 2). First touch is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.
Then, BGSU will wrap up the regular-season schedule by hosting Northern Illinois on Sunday evening (Nov. 6). The Falcons and Huskies will meet in a 6:00 p.m. start at Cochrane Stadium.
