Falcons Sweep MAC East Player Of The Week Awards For Second Straight Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Players of the Week Monday afternoon (Nov. 14). Of those named, Bowling Green swept the MAC East awards for the second consecutive week and the third time this season with Lauryn Hovey being named Offensive Player of the Week, Yelianiz Torres was named Defensive Player of the Week and Jaden Walz, Hanna Laube and Hovey being named the Setters of the Week.
This is the fourth time this season Torres has been named, the third for Walz and second for Laube. Hovey has now been named the Offensive Player of the Week twice and the Setter of the Week twice. The Falcons have had an Offensive Player of the Week seven times this season with four different student-athletes named. As for the Defensive Award, BGSU has been the recipient seven times with two different Falcons named.
Hovey paced the Falcons' attack as BGSU took two from the Buffalo Bulls. In Friday's (Nov. 11) five-setter, Hovey landed a team-high 17 kills on 31 attacks with just three errors for an impressive .452 attack percentage. She added three aces in the match as well as six assists, three digs and two block assists. As for Saturday (Nov. 12), Hovey registered nine kills over the three sets, tying for the team-lead. She also produced seven assists, five digs, two block assists and an ace in the MAC East-clinching win.
Torres led the back line for the Falcons against Buffalo. Torres began the weekend by matching her career-high, and setting a new season-high, with 36 digs over the five-set match Friday (Nov. 11). She added an ace and an assist to her stat line as well. As for Saturday (Nov. 12), Torres tallied 12 digs and three assists in the three-set sweep to clinch the MAC East.
Bowling Green utilized a team of three setters over the weekend against Buffalo. In Friday's match (Nov. 11), the Falcons were led by Jaden Walz who put up a season-high 32 assists. Hanna Laube was close behind with 15 while Lauryn Hovey contributed six. As for Saturday (Nov. 12), the Falcons were again led by Walz, this time with 20 kills and seven digs. Laube and Hovey each logged seven.
