GOIN' BACK TO INDIANA
• The Valparaiso game marks the Falcons' third contest in the state of Indiana this season. In all, BGSU is slated to make four trips to the Hoosier State, playing a total of five games. BG split a pair of contests two weekends ago, falling to then #9/12 Indiana before beating Southern Indiana.
• The Falcons also are scheduled to face IUPUI during non-conference play, heading to Indianapolis for a Dec. 15 contest.
• And, BGSU's MAC opener sees the Falcons head to Ball State on Jan. 4. Assuming there are no changes to the schedule, BG will have played five games in Indiana and only four in Ohio following that BSU matchup.
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE BGSU-VALPARAISO MATCHUP
• BGSU's Robyn Fralick and Valpo's Mary Evans each are in their fifth season as head coach at their respective school. And, their two teams have met in every year. Valparaiso is the only non-conference team the Falcons have faced in each of Fralick's seasons at the helm, with BG having won three of those four meetings.
A SECOND THING YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE BGSU-VALPO GAME
• A pair of fifth-year seniors, BGSU's Allison Day and Valparaiso's Maya Dunson, were teammates at Loyola University Chicago during the 2018-19 and '19-20 seasons. Dunson transferred to Valpo midway through the latter season. Day spent four seasons with the Ramblers, and had 1,139 points and 645 rebounds for head coach Kate Achter's club before joining BGSU prior to the 2022-23 season.
OK ... SINCE YOU ASKED, HERE'S A THIRD THING
• BGSU junior Nyla Hampton, a native of Huber Heights, Ohio, was a teammate of Valpo's Maya Dunson and Lovie Malone in high school, as all three graduated from perennial powerhouse Wayne H.S. Hampton was a three-time all-league selection who helped the Warriors to an overall record of 72-23 during her four seasons.
DOMINANT DEFENSE DOOMS DETROIT
• The Falcons displayed a dominant defensive effort in Monday's (Nov. 28) win over Detroit Mercy at the Stroh Center. BGSU topped the Titans, 76-29, marking the first time in program history that the Falcons have allowed fewer than 30 points against an NCAA Division-I opponent. BGSU has held the opponent under 30 points a total of five times in program history.

A FEW MORE ADDITIONS TO THE SINGLE-GAME LISTS
• The Falcons threatened several more school single-game records in the Detroit Mercy contest. BGSU forced the Titans into 32 turnovers on the night, tied for the second-highest total by a Falcon opponent in school history and just one shy of the school record.
• BG had a team total of 20 steals, just one away from tying that school record.
• The 47-point win was tied for the ninth-largest margin of victory in school history, and was BG's largest in nearly 11 years.
THIS HAD HAPPENED EXACTLY ZERO TIMES BEFORE...
• The BGSU defense pitched a shutout against Detroit in the second quarter, outscoring the Titans by a 23-0 count to take a 43-11 halftime lead.
• It was the first time in school history (NCAA women's basketball games have consisted of four 10-minute quarters since the 2015-16 season) that BGSU had held an opponent scoreless for an entire quarter.
• Detroit's total of 11 points in the first half was tied for the third-lowest single-half total by an opponent in program history.
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
• Six games into the 2022-23 season, the Falcons have been able to force turnovers by the opponents, while keeping their own turnover total to a relative minimum. BGSU has had fewer turnovers than the opponent in each game this season to date.
• BG has turned the ball over 17 times or fewer in every game, while forcing the opposition into at least 18 turnovers in every game. The Falcons have averaged 12.17 turnovers per contest, while the foes have turned the ball over 23.67 times per game.
• BGSU committed just seven turnovers in the home opener against Wright State, tied for the fourth-lowest single-game total in school history, and the Falcons had just 10 turnovers in the win over Detroit Mercy. Through six games, the Falcons have outscored the opponents, 130-63, in points off turnovers.
HAMPTON'S DEFENSE LEADS TO OFFENSE
• Nyla Hampton had 86 steals last season, the fourth-highest total in BGSU history. She ranked second in the MAC and 17th in the nation in that category. With 2.69 steals per contest, Hampton finished third in the league and 23rd in the country.
• This season, Hampton has a team-high 22 steals through six games. She tied her career high with six steals in this year's opener at SBU and added five more against WSU. Hampton, who had at least three steals in a game 17 times last year, has had at least four steals in four of this year's six games.
• Hampton now has 164 steals in 62 career games played, an average of 2.65 per game. She is on pace to set the school career records for both total steals and steals per contest.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE BEACONS
• Valparaiso is 2-3 on the season, with wins over Central Michigan and Southern Miss, and losses to Eastern Illinois, UAB and Northwestern. Each of the Beacons' first four games was decided by seven points or fewer, before Valpo fell, 81-47, at Northwestern the last time out (Nov. 27).
• Ali Saunders leads the Beacons in scoring, with 14.0 points per game off the bench, while Leah Earnest is averaging 13.8 ppg and a team-high 10.0 rebounds per outing.
• Head coach Mary Evans welcomed back seven letterwinners from a year ago. The Beacons went 11-19 overall and 9-9 in Missouri Valley Conference play in 2021-22.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Valparaiso, 7-2, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured the last two meetings, both at the Stroh Center. Last year, the Falcons downed the Beacons, 69-53, as Morgan Sharps and Amy Velasco each came off the bench to score 17 points (Dec. 5, 2021). Bench players scored 43 of the Falcons' 69 points in that victory. The last matchup in Northwest Indiana saw Valpo down the Orange and Brown in overtime, 95-90 (Nov. 24, 2019). BGSU is 5-0 in home games (3-0 at the Stroh) and 2-2 in road contests vs. Valparaiso over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Valparaiso matchup, the Falcons will take a break for fall semester exams, before heading south to face East Tennessee State on Sunday, Dec. 11. That game will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Brooks Gym.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return to the state of Indiana, facing IUPUI on Thursday, Dec. 15. BGSU will not play at home again until Dec. 30.
