A League-High 14 Falcons Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A total of 14 Bowling Green State University men's soccer student-athletes have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, which was announced by the league office.
BGSU's lengthy list of honorees includes Joey Akpunonu, Alberto Anaya, Jake Bergin, Kyle Blasingame, Kyle Cusimano, Gaetano D'Argento, Josh Erlandson, Abdi Faqi, Brendan Graves, Jensen Lukacsko, Sergi Martinez, Nathan Masters, Kale Nichols and Eli Shope.
BGSU's total of 14 student-athletes named to the team was the highest in the conference. Northern Illinois was next with 11 honorees, while Western Michigan had eight student-athletes represented and Akron and Chicago State seven apiece.
Lukacsko and Nichols each were named to the team for the fourth consecutive year, while Faqi made the academic all-conference squad for the third-straight season. Akpunonu and Cusimano landed on the team for the second consecutive year.
To be eligible for the Academic All-MAC honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's matches during the season. Freshmen are not eligible for the award.
BGSU went 6-5-5 overall in 2022, and the Falcons finished MAC play with a 4-2-2 league ledger, finishing third in the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons will compete in the Missouri Valley Conference beginning next fall.
The Falcons have a record of 42-25-12 over the last 79 games, dating to midway through the 2018 season. Sixteen of the 25 setbacks in that time have come by a single goal.
