#FALCONFAST
• For the most part, the Falcons have gotten off to a fast start in games this season. BGSU has outscored the opponent in the first quarter in nine of the 11 games to date, and the Falcons have led by double digits five times after the opening quarter.
• In BGSU's five December games so far (all wins), the Falcons have led by an average of 11.4 points after the opening period. That includes the game at Valparaiso (Dec. 2), where the Falcons led by a 30-11 count after one quarter en route to a 92-61 win, as well as the ETSU contest (Dec. 11), where the Orange and Brown took a 26-12 lead after 10 minutes and beat the Bucs, 82-64.
TAKE THE LEAD. KEEP THE LEAD.
• The Falcons found themselves in an unfamiliar position in the game vs. UTRGV (Dec. 20). When the Vaqueros made a jump shot to take a 2-0 lead early in the first quarter, it marked the first time BGSU had trailed in the entire month of December.
• BGSU had not trailed since the Nov. 23 game vs. Northern Kentucky in the Stroh Center. The Falcons were behind for just under 90 seconds in the UTRGV contest before hitting the tying bucket, and BG never trailed again.
• In the last eight games – 320 minutes of action – BGSU has trailed for a grand total of 3:33 (i.e., just over 1 percent of the time).
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
• Eleven games into the 2022-23 season, the Falcons have been proficient at forcing turnovers by the opponents, while keeping their own turnover total to a relative minimum. BGSU has had fewer turnovers than the opponent in every game this season to date, and the Falcons are second in the entire nation in turnover margin.
• BG has turned the ball over 17 times or fewer in each game, while forcing the opposition into at least 16 turnovers in every game. The Falcons have averaged 11.91 turnovers per contest, while the foes have turned the ball over 22.45 times per game.
• BGSU committed just seven turnovers in the home opener against Wright State, tied for the fourth-lowest single-game total in school history, and the Falcons had just 10 turnovers in the win over Detroit Mercy, 11 at ETSU and nine against both IUPUI and UTRGV. Through 11 games, the Falcons have outscored the opponents, 258-109, in points off turnovers.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
• The Falcons have won 10 non-conference games for the eighth time in school history, and the first time in nine years. If BGSU beats Findlay, the 2022-23 team would be tied for the second-highest non-conference (prior to MAC play) win total in school history.
• The 2010-11 team went 12-1 in non-league action, while three-straight BGSU teams (2006-07 through '08-09 each won 11 non-conference contests.
• Each of the previous seven BGSU teams that posted a double-digit non-league win total went on to win at least 24 games that season.
• The complete list of BGSU's year-by-year non-conference records can be found on in the PDF version of these notes, which are just one click away.
GREAT START!
• BGSU is 10-1, and the Falcons have tied the school record for best start to a season. The 2022-23 season marks only the second 10-1 start in program history.
• The 2010-11 team also won 10 of 11 games to begin the year. That club lost the season opener by one point, then reeled off 15-straight wins before losing again.
THAT '90S SHOW
• The 90-61 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce marked the fourth time the Falcons have reached the 90-point mark in this season's first 11 games. BGSU scored 90 or more points a total of four times during all of last season.
• The Falcons have not reached the 90-point plateau more than four times in a season in over a decade, since the 2010-11 team hit that mark five times.
SCORE MORE
• The Falcons are currently 15th in the nation in scoring offense. BGSU is averaging 82.8 points per game. As mentioned, the Falcons have topped the 90-point mark four times this season, and BG has scored at least 76 points in nine of the first 11 games this year to date.
MILLENNIUM FALCONS
• Three Falcons – Kadie Hempfling (1,239), Allison Day (1,237) and Payton Moore (1,120) – each have scored more than 1,000 points in their respective collegiate careers. Hempfling has scored all of her points in a BGSU uniform, while Day and Moore scored the bulk of their points at Loyola Univ. Chicago and Anderson Univ., respectively.
• Elissa Brett is looking to make that trio a quartet sometime in the next few weeks. The fourth-year Falcon enters the Findlay game with a career total of 938 points, and currently ranks 32nd in BGSU history in career scoring.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE OILERS
• Findlay is 4-8 overall entering Friday's contest, and the Oilers are 1-4 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. UF's most recent game was a 68-55 loss to Wayne State on Dec. 19.
• Kate Ellis leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 11.7 points and 6.4 boards per game to date. Chloe Callahan has 9.9 ppg this season, while five players are averaging between 5.5 and 6.4 points per outing.
• Head coach Michele Durand is in her first season leading the Oilers, but her 31st as a collegiate head coach. Last year, UF went 15-15 overall and 12-10 in G-MAC play.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons are facing Findlay for the first time.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following Friday's Findlay matchup, the Falcons will begin Mid-American Conference action with a trip to Muncie. BGSU battles Ball State on Wednesday (Jan. 4), with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return home for the next two contests, beginning with a matchup vs. Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 7. That game begins at 1:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
