Conference office announces preseason poll
The Bowling Green State University softball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference in 2022, according to the league's preseason poll. The poll, the result of voting by the MAC's 11 head coaches, was released on Thursday (Feb. 10) by the conference office.
Miami was picked to win the MAC regular-season title, while Kent State was tabbed to finish second, Ball State third and the Falcons fourth.
MU received all 11 votes to win the regular-season title. The RedHawks got seven votes to win the MAC Tournament crown, while KSU garnered the other four tourney votes.
BGSU head coach Sarah Willis and her staff welcome back 16Â letterwinners, including six positional starters and four of five pitchers from a year ago.
The Falcons ended the 2021 season with an overall record of 27-27, and BGSU went 19-20 in MAC play last spring. BG, picked to finish eighth in the league in the 2021 preseason coaches' poll, ended the season in fifth place in the 11-team loop. The Falcons were one of two conference teams to finish as many as three places higher than predicted last year.
The 2021 team finished with the program's highest winning percentage in MAC play since 2012, and BGSU's overall total of 27 wins was the highest since the 2013 campaign.
BGSUÂ heads to Chicagoland for five games in the DePaul Dome Tournament, beginning Friday (Feb. 11). The Falcons' home opener, which is also the MAC opener, is scheduled for Friday, March 18, vs. Northern Illinois.
