• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team heads to Lexington, Ky., for the 12th Annual Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will play three games in the eight-team tourney, beginning with Friday's (March 18) first-round matchup with Furman University. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m., and all tourney games will be played at the Clive M. Beck Center on the campus of Transylvania University.
• BGSU will meet either Austin Peay or Saint Mary's on Saturday (March 19), with start time at 12:00 or 2:30 p.m., depending upon the Falcons' Friday result.
• The bottom half of the bracket includes Davidson, Nevada, Northeastern and defending WBI champion Cleveland State. BG will face one of those four teams on Sunday (March 20). The complete bracket is on page 20 of the PDF version of these notes.

THE FALCONS IN NATIONAL TOURNAMENT PLAY
• The 2021-22 season marks BGSU's first trip to the WBI, but the Falcons have a rich history of national tournament appearances.
• BGSU has won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Championships on 11 occasions, and the Falcons have qualified for the WNIT eight times in program history. Overall, BG has an 11-19 record in national tournament play, including a 3-11 mark in the NCAAs and an 8-8 record in the WNIT.
• The Falcons went to the NCAA tourney six times in eight seasons between 1987-94, and BGSU's first WNIT appearance came in 1998. Beginning in March of 2005, the Orange and Brown made 10 consecutive national tourney appearances, with five trips to both the NCAAs and the WNIT in that time.
• Last March, BGSU qualified for the WNIT, marking the Falcons' first national tourney appearance in seven seasons.
THE OPENING TIP – STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• The Falcons are 15-15 on the season, and BGSU finished Mid-American Conference play with a 10-10 mark, good for a tie for sixth in the 12-team league. The Falcons' most recent game was an 81-67 loss to third-seeded Akron in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round (March 9).
• BGSU is 24-14 in MAC regular-season games over the last two years, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 24-14 record includes a 14-6 mark at the Stroh and a 10-8 ledger in league road games.
• Madisen Parker broke the school record for games played earlier this season, and she is moving up another BGSU list. Parker has hit 245 three-point field goals in her career, and has moved into second place on that BG career chart.
• As a team, the Falcons have made at least one three-point field goal in 549 consecutive games over the last 17 years. That is the fifth-longest active streak in the nation.
• Kadie Hempfling has started 119 career games, and is now fifth on that BGSU list.
• Hempfling is also ranked on the BGSU career lists for scoring (22nd), rebounding (10th), assists (sixth) and three-pointers made (14th). Parker has moved into 31st place on the BG career scoring chart.
• Entering Friday's Furman game, Morgan Sharps leads the MAC – and is eighth in the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage. She has hit 44.5% of her long-distance shots this season.
• Nyla Hampton has 10 steals over the last three games, and is ranked among the top-25 players in the nation with 79 steals this season. That total ranks her fourth on the BGSU single-season list.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE PALADINS
• Furman is 19-12 on the season, and the Paladins finished the regular season with a 10-4 record in Southern Conference play, good for third place. Furman advanced all the way to the championship game of the SoCon Tournament before falling to Mercer. The Paladins went 9-3 at home and 7-8 on the road, with a mark of 3-1 in neutral-site games to date.
• Tierra Hodges, the SoCon Player of the Year, leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, with 17.9 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. Hodges is one of the nation's top rebounders, and leads the SoCon in a veritable plethora of statistical categories. Tate Walters and Grace van Rij are also scoring in double figures, with 13.2 and 10.1 ppg, respectively, and Walters has a team-leading 4.1 assists per contest. Walters and van Rij each earned all-league second-team honors. Head coach Jackie Carson welcomed back three starters from a 2020-21 squad that finished 11-14 overall and 6-8 in league play.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons have never met Furman in women's basketball.
• Overall, BGSU is 12-6 against the other schools in the 2022 WBI field, with the bulk of those games coming vs. Cleveland State. The Falcons are 10-5 all-time against the Vikings, and BG has records of 2-0 vs. Austin Peay and 0-1 against Davidson.
