• The BGSU softball team hits the road to face the team currently atop the Mid-American Conference standings. Head coach Sarah Willis and the Falcons head to Oxford for a three-game series vs. league-leading Miami (OH), with a single game on Tuesday evening (April 19) followed by a Wednesday (April 20) doubleheader at Miami Softball Stadium. Tuesday's game begins at 5:00 p.m., with Wednesday's action starting at 1:00 p.m.
• The Falcons are 22-11 overall and 8-5 in MAC play, and BGSU has won four of the last five games and eight of the last 10 contests. BG played just two games last week, stepping outside of conference action and sweeping Detroit Mercy in a twinbill at Meserve Field.
• In the opener, Payton Gottshall fired six innings of four-hit shutout ball, striking out 12, while Madi Young – making just her second collegiate appearance – pitched a scoreless seventh frame to earn the save in BGSU's 3-0 win.
• In the nightcap, Sarah Gonzalez homered in back-to-back at-bats to lift the Falcons to a 6-4 win. Reagan Williamson also homered as BG rallied from a 4-1 deficit. Sydney Stepp picked up the win with three-and-two-thirds innings of one-hit relief, and Kiara Hurley earned her fourth save of the season.
• Greta L'Esperance went 6-for-8 in the Detroit DH, including a 4-for-4 performance in game two. She leads the Falcons with a .391 batting average on the season, and has a seven-game hitting streak, with five multiple-hit games in that time.
• In the month of April, L'Esperance is hitting .486 (18-for-37).
• Williamson is hitting .347 on the year, while Peyton Dolejs and Sophie Weber are batting .318 and .304, respectively.
• L'Esperance leads the Falcons in stolen bases (25) and runs scored (31), and she is already tied for fifth on the BGSU single-season steals list.
• Williamson tops the team in homers (seven), runs batted in (28), total bases (60) and slugging percentage (.612). Dolejs, one of three Falcons (along with L'Esperance and Williamson) to start all 33 games, is second on the team in walks (17), runs (24), extra-base hits (10) and RBI (22).
• Gonzalez, in her fifth year as a full-time starter, has played in 206 of BG's 207 games since her arrival on campus. She has made 205 starts, which places her sixth on that school career list.
• Gonzalez is also ranked among the top all-time Falcons in career games played (206, T-12th), homers (15, 12th), walks (62, T-eighth), sacrifice flies (eight, T-third) and sac bunts (23, 13th).
• L'Esperance now has 54 steals in her BGSU career, and is ranked fourth in school history. She has a career batting average of .363, good for third on that BGSU chart.
• In the circle, Gottshall has a record of 16-7, a 1.34 ERA and 235 strikeouts in 146 1/3 innings. Gottshall has been named MAC Pitcher of the Week five times this season to date.
• Gottshall has seen action in 12 of BGSU's last 14 games and 17 of the last 20 contests. She has not allowed a run in her last 20 innings of work, and has surrendered only one run in her last 29 innings.
• Gottshall currently leads the MAC in eight statistical categories, and is ranked among the top-25 pitchers in the nation all eight of those categories. She is second in the country in total strikeouts, eighth in innings pitched, 12th in strikeout-to-walk ratio, strikeouts per seven innings and wins, 13th in shutouts, 20th in hits allowed per seven innings and 24th in ERA. Her total of 235 strikeouts already places her third on that BG single-season list.
• Offensively, L'Esperance leads the MAC in hits, total stolen bases and steals per game. She is eighth in the country in total steals and 13th in steals per contest.
• As a team, the Falcons lead the league in ERA (2.34), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.42) and winning pct. (.667), while ranking second in the MAC in shutouts (seven).
• Miami is 24-12 overall, and the RedHawks lead the MAC with a 15-2 conference record. Karli Spaid is hitting .412 and leads the MAC with 17 homers, 38 RBI and a .921 slugging pct. In the circle, Courtney Vierstra is 12-7 with a 2.50 ERA and 129 strikeouts, while Brianna Pratt is 10-4 with a 4.96 ERA. Last season, head coach Kirin Kumar's club went 46-10 overall and 36-2 in the MAC, advancing to the NCAA Championships.
• BGSU trails Miami, 58-56, in the all-time series, and the RedHawks took three of last year's four meetings at Meserve Field. MU has captured four-straight matchups in Oxford since BG's last series road win in 2014.
• Following the Miami series, BGSU will return home to face Akron. Saturday's (April 23) doubleheader will be Alumnae Day, while Sunday (April 24) will be Senior Day at Meserve Field.
