Doubleheader Split Forces Battle Of I-75 Rubber Match At Fifth Third Field Tuesday
May 08, 2022 | Baseball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball program split Sunday's (May 8) doubleheader in the Battle of I-75, making the weekend a four-game split between the two teams. The first game saw a pitcher's duel, including Andrew Abrahamowicz's second consecutive seven-inning complete game. However, it was the Rockets that scored the game's lone run to take the game. As for the second game, the Falcons' bats awoke to tally seven runs behind more strong output on the mound. Nic Good, Isaiah Seidel and Griffin Parrill combined to give up just one run over the nine innings.
The Battle of I-75 will conclude on Tuesday (May 10) as the Falcons and Rockets make their second annual trip to Fifth Third Field, the home of the Toledo Mud Hens. Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the rubber match.

QUOTE FROM COACH HALLOCK
"Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field will be a great night for baseball here in Northwest Ohio.
I thought we hung tough in the most recent three games. We created traffic and gave ourselves opportunities. Our defense was solid and we received some really good pitching performances."

- The Falcons added a run in the third. Tyler Ross reached first on an error and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Kyle Gurney found a hole in the left side of the infield for a single to bring Ross home to make it 2-0.
- The momentum carried into the fourth for the Falcons. Three consecutive singles to start the inning loaded the bases for the Orange and Brown. A Ryan Johnston fielder's choice knock scored the first run before Nathan Archer hit one through the right side of the infield for two more runs, pushing the BGSU lead to 5-0.
- The Rockets tallied their first run in the top of the eighth to cut into the lead 5-1 and force a pitching change for the Falcons.
- In the bottom of the eighth BGSU responded with a pair of runs. Rose was hit by a pitch before advancing to third on a throwing error by the pitcher on a pickoff move. Justin Fugitt proceeded to knock a triple over the center fielder's head to score Rose.
