Falcons Return Home to the Nest on Saturday for Family WeekendÂ
• Bowling Green State University returns home to the cozy confines of Doyt Perry Stadium to host the Akron Zips in MACtion.
• It is the 30th meeting between the Falcons and the Zips.
• It is also Family Weekend at Bowling Green.
• Kick is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Celebrating ESPN's College GameDay
• The 2023 season marks 20 years since ESPN's College GameDay show came to Bowling Green in 2003.
• BGSU was the first MAC school to host the weekly college football show. Then-No. 23 BG hosted then-No. 12 NIU and won, 34-18.
• Lee Corso donned Frieda's head gear during the weekly head gear segment. In honor of that moment, a replica bobblehead of that moment will be given out to the first 500 fans before Saturday's game.
• BGSU also will wear a "throwback" helmet with the Falcon logo the 2003 team wore.
Five Top Storylines
• Saturday is also "Senior Day"as BGSU will honor its seniors on the last Saturday home game. There will be 10 Falcons honored: ILB Darren Anders, TE Bryce Boyer, CB Davon Ferguson, OL Luke Harmon, WR Odieu Hiliare, ILB James Miller, WR Austin Osborne, PK Jake Sauder, OT Kameren Stewart and DL Kitione Tau.
• Bowling Green returns home for the first time in 28 days when the Zips come to Doyt Perry Stadium. The Falcons are the only FBS program in the nation to only have two home games through seven weeks of the college football season.
• RB Terion Stewart has rushed 71 times for 431 yards and two touchdowns over BGSU's last four games. Stewart averages 6.3 yards per rush for his career, which ranks No. 1 in program history. Stewart is No. 3 in the nation with 25 rushes of 10+ yards.
• Bowling Green is No. 1 in the MAC and No. 8 in the nation with six fumble recoveries.
• BGSU is the only program in the nation to have returned at least one blocked field goal (Liberty) and one blocked punt (Buffalo) for touchdowns.
Bowling Green vs. Akron
• Bowling Green welcomes Akron to Doyt Perry Stadium on Saturday for Mid-American Conference action.
• BGSU leads the all-time series with Akron, 19-10, who joined the MAC in 1992.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 5-1 against Akron when the Falcons hold the Zips below 300 yards of total offense. The lone win for the Zips was in 2020.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 9-4 against Akron when the Falcons accumulate 350+ yards of total offense.
• Since 2000, Bowling Green is 8-1 against Akron when the Falcons win the turnover battle.
Road Warriors Return Home
• Bowling Green just finished its three-game road swing last Saturday at Buffalo (Oct. 14). The Falcons also played at Georgia Tech (Sept. 30) and Miami (OH) (Oct. 7).
• After Sept. 23 at against Ohio, Bowling Green has not played in the cozy confines of Doyt Perry Stadium until Oct. 21 when Akron comes to town. That is Week No. 8 of the college football season.
• BGSU is the only school in the nation that has just two home games through the first seven weeks of the college football season.
• Once the Falcons play on Oct. 21, only BGSU, Fresno State, Nevada, South Carolina, UTSA and Virginia will have played just three home games through Oct. 21. Nevada, South Carolina and UTSA will play home game No. 3 on Oct. 14. Virginia on Oct. 7 and Fresno State plays home game No. 3 on Sept. 30.
Carry On Terion
• Bowling Green's Terion Stewart is enjoying a career year for the Falcons.
• Stewart already has career highs in rushes (91) and rushing yards (539). He has four rushing touchdowns, which is one off his best season of five in 2021.
• Stewart is No. 3 in the nation with 25 rushes of 10+ yards.Â
Rushing Game Improvement in 2023
• The Bowling Green rushing attack has taken a big step forward into 2023. Bowling Green has 45 rushes of 10+ yards, which is 85 percent of its 2022 output of 53. BGSU's 45 rushes of 10+ yards is No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the MAC (Toledo, 51).
• Bowling Green already has five rushing touchdowns by running backs which is two more than all last season. BGSU only had eight rushing touchdowns in 2022 with two by quarterbacks and four by tight end Harold Fannin Jr.Â
• With 971 rushing yards through six games, BGSU is already 74.5 percent to its 2022 total of 1,304 rushing yards.
• The return of RB Terion Stewart has bolstered the rushing game. Stewart sat out 2022 to focus on mental health and academics. He currently is No. 1 in the BGSU record book for career yards per carry at 6.3.
• The Falcons averaged 6.2 yards per rush in the season opener at Liberty on 191 rushing yards. Both numbers are the best for the BGSU ground game since the 2021 season when the Falcons played at Buffalo. In that game the Falcons rushed for 221 yards on 8.19 yards per carry.
Ball Hawks In The Secondary
• Bowling Green is No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the MAC with 10 team interceptions.
• CB Jalen Huskey leads BGSU with three, which ranks No. 12 in the nation and No. 2 in the MAC in interceptions.
• Davon Ferguson, Avi McGary and Jordan Oladokun all rank No. 43 nationally with two each.
