Falcons Fall Short In Mount Pleasant Despite Multiple Career-High Outings

Hovey Lands Career-High 32 Kills In Five Sets
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team took on the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday (Oct. 27) in Mount Pleasant, going five sets in the match. CMU took the first set before BGSU answered with wins in the second and third. Central Michigan battled back in the fourth set before taking the match in the fifth.
For the Falcons, Lauryn Hovey landed a career-high 32 kills on a career-high 65 attack attempts while maintaining a .369 attack percentage. Jaden Walz set the attack with a career-high 53 assists, the most by a Falcon in nearly two years, while adding 13 assists for her eighth double-double of the season. On the attack, Mia Tyler added 14 kills while defensively Alex Laboy led the team in digs with 19 followed by Lindsey LaPinta's 12.

How It Happened
Set 1: Central Michigan 25, Bowling Green 16
- An early 3-0 run pushed Central Michigan in front 4-2 with the Chippewas slowly building their lead to 8-4 before a Bowling Green timeout.
- Central Michigan added a 3-0 run out of the timeout, making it a 5-0 stretch, to increase their advantage to 11-4.
- The two teams traded points up to the next stoppage, coming from the second BGSU timeout of the set with the score at 18-11 CMU.
- The Chippewas were able to hold the lead through the end of the set with a 25-16 score.
Set 2: Bowling Green 25, Central Michigan 22
- Bowling Green jumped out to a lead in the second set before extending it to 10-5 with a 4-0 run, forcing a timeout from the Chippewas.
- The two teams traded points until a 3-0 run for Central Michigan trimmed the BGSU lead down to 18-15 with the Falcons taking a timeout.
- CMU continued to work at the Bowling Green lead, bringing it to 20-19 BGSU with the second Falcon timeout of the set. Central landed the next point out of the timeout to tie the set at 20-20.
- Bowling Green responded with a pair of points to reclaim the lead at 22-20 with CMU taking their second timeout of the set.
- The Falcons were able to maintain their advantage and secure the set to even the match.
Set 3: Bowling Green 25, Central Michigan 9
- The Falcons tallied an early 4-0 run in the third set to take a 5-2 lead. The lead stretched to 7-3 with CMU taking a timeout.
- Central Michigan recorded the first point out of the timeout, but Bowling Green added a 3-0 run to their tally to extend the BGSU lead to 10-4.
- The sequence repeated with a 3-0 BGSU run following the lone CMU point, making it a 6-1 stretch and 13-5 lead for Bowling Green to force the second Central Michigan timeout.
- The first point out of the timeout once again went to CMU, but the Falcons responded, this time with a 5-0 run to push the lead to 18-6.
- The Falcons closed out the set with another 5-0 run to make it a 2-1 BGSU lead for the match with a .484 hitting percentage in the set.
Set 4: Central Michigan 25, Bowling Green 21
- Central Michigan opened the fourth set with a 5-0 run to force a quick timeout from the Bowling Green bench.
- A pair of aces for CMU out of the timeout stretched their advantage to 7-0 to begin the set before the first BGSU point of the set.
- The Falcons soon registered a 5-0 run of their own to close the gap to 10-7 with Central Michigan taking a timeout. BGSU landed the first point out of the timeout to push the run to 6-0 and trim the deficit to 10-8.
- A 3-0 run for the Falcons pulled Bowling Green within one with the score at 12-11 CMU.
- Central Michigan put together a 3-0 run of their own to reestablish their lead at 17-12 with a BGSU timeout.
- Another 3-0 run, this time in favor of the Falcons, trimmed the lead late to 23-19 CMU and brought on the second Central Michigan timeout of the set.
- Central Michigan was able to hold off the late surge from the Falcons to force a fifth set.
Set 5: Central Michigan 15, Bowling Green 11
- The first run in the fifth set went to the Falcons with a 3-0 burst to move ahead 4-1.
- Bowling Green maintained their lead up to the halfway point, switching sides with an 8-6 advantage.
- After the switch, Central Michigan recorded back-to-back points to knot the set up at 8-8 before moving ahead 9-8 with a 3-0 run to force a BGSU timeout.
- The lead for CMU stretched to 12-9 with the second Bowling Green timeout being called.
- Central Michigan stayed in front to take the set and the match.

- For the eighth time this season, Jaden Walz recorded a double-double for the Falcons. Walz finished with a career-high 53 assists and 13 digs while adding a solo block and three block assists to her stat line.
- The 53 assists for Walz are the most by a Falcon since Hanna Laube recorded 67 against Ball State on Nov. 24, 2021.
- Lauryn Hovey landed a career-high 32 kills for the Falcons, the highest total by a Falcon this season. On a career-high 65 attacks, Hovey had just eight errors for a .369 hitting percentage. She added a team-high three aces to her stat line as well as nine digs and an assist.
- Hovey's stat line set three new career-highs for a single-season, surpassing marks from last year. Hovey now has 417.0 points, 340 kills and 125 digs this season, all new career-highs.
- With five kills on the night, Jessica Andrews brought her career kill total to 202 with the Falcons, surpassing the 200-mark for her collegiate career.
