Hovey Becomes Fifth Falcon To Be Named In Consecutive Seasons
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Tuesday morning (Dec. 5) the list of All-Region recipients for the 2023 campaign. Among those named for the Northeast Region was Bowling Green's Lauryn Hovey. This is Hovey's second consecutive time being named after receiving the recognition last season as well.
Hovey is now the fifth player in program history to be named in consecutive seasons, joining Tammy Schiller (1989, 1990, 1991), Lisa Mika (1990, 1991), Kallie Seimet (2017, 2018) and Petra Indrova (2020, 2021, 2022). The Falcons have now had at least one recipient named in four straight seasons as well as seven of the last eight. Over the eight-year span, Bowling Green has had nine recipients recognized.
Coach Tomic's Take
"We are thrilled that Lauryn was recognized for her impressive play this season. To be selected among the best players in the AVCA Northeast Region, one of the most competitive in the country, is a tremendous honor for our program and Lauryn. It speaks volumes about the caliber of player she is. Lauryn's impact on our program goes beyond her impressive volleyball statistics. She is a great teammate who makes everyone around her better and cares about our team's success more than her personal accomplishments. We are excited about what the future holds for Lauryn and are grateful to be a part of her volleyball journey as a BGSU Falcon."
Over the course of the season, Hovey landed 500 kills for the Falcons, ranking seventh in program history for kills in a single-season while leading not only the team, but the Mid-American Conference. She also paced the Orange and Brown in aces with 59, finishing the year second in program history for aces in a single season and third in the MAC. Hovey registered 601.0 points during the season, averaging 4.85 per set, both topping the MAC stat sheets and the only player in the MAC to eclipse 600 points on the season. She finished the season with a .302 hitting percentage as well, tied for ninth in the conference.
