• BG has now put together a total of 13 double-digit winning streaks in program history. The complete list can be found in the PDF version of these notes.
BGSU BLUDGEONS BOBCATS
• The Falcons picked up an 81-44 win over Ohio on Wednesday evening (Feb. 8) in Athens. BGSU held a two-point lead after the first quarter, then proceeded to outscore the Bobcats, 63-28, over the final three periods.
• Are there any other impressive notes from that win? There are. Read on...
A FEW MORE NOTES FROM THE OHIO GAME
• BGSU held Ohio to just 23.1 percent shooting from the field on Wednesday night. That marked the lowest field-goal percentage by a BGSU opponent in nearly nine years, since another matchup with the Bobcats on March 2, 2014. On that night, the Falcons limited Ohio to just a 22.4% success rate from the floor.
• BG had a 27-12 scoring advantage in the second quarter on Wednesday. The Falcons made 10 field goals in that quarter alone, while holding Ohio to just 12 for the entire game.
• Ohio is the second opponent the Falcons have held to just 12 successful field goals in 40 minutes. BGSU allowed Detroit Mercy to make only 12 shots from the floor back on Nov. 28, 2022.
• No BG opponent has been held to fewer than 12 FGM since that 2014 Ohio game, when the 'Cats went 11-for-49 from the field.
• After allowing 16 points in the first quarter and 12 in the second on Wednesday, BGSU surrendered just 11 in the third period and five in the fourth. The Bobcats went just 1-of-15 from the field in the final 10 minutes.
A B!G ROAD WIN
• Ohio's total of 44 points marked the lowest total the Falcons have allowed against a MAC team in over seven years, since a 58-43 win at Northern Illinois on Jan. 20, 2016.
• The Falcons' 37-point margin of victory was BG's largest against a MAC opponent since a 44-point win (82-38) over Kent State on Feb. 27, 2014, at the Stroh Center.
• The 37-point margin of victory was BGSU's sixth-largest on the road against a MAC opponent since the conference began sponsoring women's basketball, and the fifth-largest in a MAC regular-season road game (one of the prior wins came in the league tournament).
GREAT START!
• The Falcons enter the Kent State game with an overall record of 21-2, tying the best 23-game start in program history. Four previous BGSU teams also won 21 of 23 games to begin the season, and all four of those squads wound up winning at least 27 games and advancing to national postseason play (three to the NCAA Championships, one to the WNIT).
• Impressively, a total of nine BGSU teams have won at least 20 of the first 23 games of the year.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
• Kent State is 15-7 on the season, and the Golden Flashes are 7-4 in the MAC, good for fourth place in the league. KSU has won four of the last five games, including Wednesday's 68-63 victory over visiting Central Michigan.
• Individually, Lindsey Thall leads a balanced scoring attack with 11.2 ppg, and has hit a team-leading 35 three-pointers. Katie Shumate and Corynne Hauser have 10.7 and 10.1 ppg, respectively, with Shumate pulling down a team-high 6.0 rpg. Three other players are averaging between 7.1 and 7.6 ppg.
• Head coach Todd Starkey's club is 9-2 at home, 4-5 on the road and 2-0 in neutral-site games this season. KSU is 4-1 at home and 3-3 on the road in MAC games. Starkey welcomed back 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from a 2021-22 team that went 19-12 overall and 10-10 in MAC regular-season play.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Kent State, 61-37, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured the last five meetings. BG recorded a 66-57 win at the Stroh Center in this season's first meeting (Jan. 21, 2023). Last season saw the Orange and Brown pick up a 77-67 win on the road (Feb. 21, 2022) and a 69-60 victory at the Stroh (March 2, 2022). Prior to BG's current streak, KSU had won seven of the previous nine meetings.
• The Falcons are 31-13 at home, 23-22 on the road and 7-2 at neutral sites vs. KSU through the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following Saturday's KSU kerfuffle, the Falcons will return home to face Northern Illinois on Wednesday evening (Feb. 15). That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center, and will be both the Falcons' Play 4Kay game and Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return to the road to face Western Michigan next Saturday (Feb. 18) and Central Michigan four days later (Feb. 22).
