QUOTING COACH ROBYNÂ FRALICK
"This was a great team win on the road. I thought our defensive effort was really good, and I loved all the contributions we got from so many players."
"Jocelyn (Tate) was all over the court tonight. She has a great motor. She came up with so many rebounds and made a lot happen. And Nyla (Hampton) is just a really good two-way player, and she really did a good job at both ends of the court tonight."
FIRST QUARTER
• The Falcons came up with steals on each of Ohio's first three possessions of the night. After the first steal, by Allison Day, Elissa Brett's corner three gave BGSU an early lead.
• After that triple, however, the Falcons would miss five consecutive shots from the field. Abby Garnett's second-chance layup was followed by a Jasmine Hale three-pointer, and the Bobcats had a 5-3 lead.
• But, Jocelyn Tate found Amy Velasco for a three-pointer that began a 15-2 run for the Falcons. one of Nyla Hampton's patented steals and layups gave the visitors an 8-5 lead, and Tate followed with a driving layup for a 10-5 lead.
• After a pair of Ohio free throws, Sophie Dziekan found Kadie Hempfling for a three-pointer. Moments later, Brett threw the ball inside to Day for a shot off glass, and a Hempfling steal led to a Hampton pull-up jumper and an 18-7 lead.
• That Hampton hoop, however, proved to be BG's final points of the period. The 'Cats went on a 9-0 run over the final 2:40 of the quarter, Yaya Felder scored five-straight points in the middle of that run, with a three-point play and two more free throws, and Garnett's two charity tosses cut the BG lead to 18-16 after 10 minutes.
• The Falcons forced Ohio into 11 turnovers in the opening quarter, but Ohio had an 11-6 rebounding advantage, and the 'Cats went 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.
SECOND QUARTER
• Dziekan scored on the first possession of the period. Jaya McClure's three-pointer just under two minutes into the quarter cut the Falcons' lead to 21-19, but Dziekan found Tate for an open layup, and Tate then came up with a steal and scored again.
• Amy Velasco gave the ball to Brett for a three-pointer, and Brett knocked down another triple after a Day defensive rebound. The run was 10-0, the lead was 31-19 and the Bobcats used a timeout.
• McClure scored to stop that run, but Day's baby hook restored the Falcons' 12-point lead. Brett, who had assisted on that bucket, took a Day pass several minutes later and drilled another three-point try for a 36-21 lead.
• The hosts cut the Falcons' advantage to 12, but Dziekan split a pair of defenders for a layup, and Hampton hit a pull-up jumper. McClure made two shots at the stripe, but Jasmine Fearne's pass resulted in a Hempfling triple and a 45-28 lead at the half.
THIRD QUARTER
• Hampton converted a driving layup to open the scoring, and after Garnett split a pair of free throws, a Tate jumper and a Day hook gave the Falcons a 51-29 lead.
• Hale's layup cut BG's lead to 20, before the Falcons went on another run. Tate split a pair of free throws, and her steal and long pass downcourt resulted in a transition bucket. Dziekan caught that pass under the hoop and, with a defender on her, kicked the ball out to Hampton for a trailing three. Brett's three-pointer gave BG a 9-0 run and a 60-31 lead as the 'Cats used another timeout.
• Fearne hit a corner three in front of the Ohio band, and Brett was fouled and made both of her ensuing shots, and the Falcons' lead was 65-36 after 30 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
• Tate was the only player for either team to score a point in the first 4:38 of the fourth quarter. She scored eight points, on four free throws and a pair of layups.
• Finally, Cassidy Lafler made two tosses to snap Tate's personal scoring run, but Fearne drove and hit a floater, and Payton Moore's free throws gave the Falcons a 77-41 lead.
• Emily Siesel found Fearne for a three-pointer and an 80-41 advantage, and with 30 seconds left in the period, McClure made Ohio's only field goal of the entire quarter. Each team sank a free throw to close the scoring.
STATS, NOTES & NUMBERS
• The Falcons now lead Ohio, 58-34, in the all-time series. BG's 37-point margin of victory was the largest in series history.
