TWO TEAMS. A LOT OF WINS.
• BGSU defeated Liberty, 87-80, in the WNIT's first round on Thursday evening (March 16). Entering that game, the two teams had combined for 51 wins on the season, the highest total among any of the WNIT's 32 first-round matchups.
• Entering the WNIT, BGSU and Green Bay were the only two teams in the 64-team field with as many as 27 wins. The Falcons (now 28-6) and Phoenix (28-5) enter Monday's game with a combined total of 56 victories in 2022-23, easily the highest total in any of the 16 second-round matchups.
THE FALCONS IN THE WNIT
• BGSU is appearing in the postseason WNIT for the eighth time in program history, and the second time in three years. The Falcons enter the Green Bay game with an all-time record of 9-8 in the tourney.
• The Falcons are 8-5 in home WNIT games through the years, including a 2-2 mark at venerable Anderson Arena and a 6-3 record at the Stroh Center. BGSU advanced to the third round of the 2013 tournament and the fourth round of the 2014 WNIT, losing to the eventual champion each season (Drexel in '13; Rutgers in '14).
• BGSU is 0-1 in road games and 1-2 in neutral-site contests in WNIT play over the years.
TWENTY EIGHT WINS
• The Falcons' 87-80 win over Liberty in Thursday's (March 16) WNIT opener was BGSU's 28th victory of the season. The current team is the 12th in program history to win at least 25 contests, and the first since 2013-14.
• BGSU has now had a total of nine seasons with 27 or more wins in program history. All 11 of the other MAC schools have combined for just 10 such seasons.
WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
• The Falcons have won the turnover battle more often than not – MUCH more often than not – this season. BGSU has committed fewer turnovers than the opponents in 31 of this season's 34 games.
• The Falcons forced the opposition into 20 or more turnovers in 12 of the 18 MAC regular-season contests. Overall, BGSU has had a turnover margin of +10 or better in 16 games this winter, with a +9 margin in six additional games.
• Entering the Green Bay game, the Falcons are ranked second in the entire nation in turnover margin (+9.09), and BGSU is seventh in the country in turnovers forced per game (21.50) and eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.36).
• BGSU has forced the opposition into at least 15 turnovers in 32 of the 34 games, and the Falcons have had a single-digit turnover total 11 times this season to date.
• And, BG has turned those opponent turnovers into buckets. Through 34 games, the Falcons have outscored the foes, 777-342, in points off turnovers – an average of 22.85 points for, and just 10.06 points against, per game. We break it down scientifically in a handy chart on page 10. As always, trust the science.
HAMPTON = DEFENSE
• There's a reason Nyla Hampton was named the MAC's Defensive Player of the Year. In fact, there are at least 99 reasons.
• Hampton had 86 steals last season, the fourth-highest total in BGSU history at the time (spoiler alert: it's now the fifth highest total). She ranked second in the MAC and 17th in the nation in that category in 2021-22. With 2.69 steals per game, Hampton was third in the league and 23rd in the country.
• This season, Hampton has 99 steals, a new school single-season record. In the MAC Tournament quarterfinal-round win over Eastern Michigan, she broke a record that had stood for nearly three decades, as Talita Scott had set the mark with 92 steals in 1993-94.
• Hampton now has two of the top-five single-season totals in program annals. She currently ranks seventh in the nation in total steals and 14th in the country in steals per game (2.91). She leads the MAC in both categories.
• Hampton is on pace to shatter the school records for total steals and steals per game in a career. She has 241 steals in 90 career games played. In just her third year with the Falcons, she has moved into a tie for second place on the BGSU career steals list. Hampton has tied Lori Albers (241 steals from 1989-94) for that second-place spot, and needs three steals to tie Lindsay Austin's (244 from 2000-04) school record.
• And, Hampton's average of 2.68 career steals per game puts her on pace to obliterate that school record – no other Falcon has had more than 2.19 career spg.
MIGHT WANNA KEEP YOUR EYE ON TATE AS WELL
• Nyla Hampton has broken the BGSU season steals record and is on pace to shatter the career mark. But, when bringing the ball upcourt, Falcon foes would be wise to keep an eye out for Jocelyn Tate as well. Hampton, as mentioned, has a school-record 99 steals this season to lead the MAC. Tate is second in the conference in steals (75) and third in steals per game (2.27).
• In MAC games, Hampton had 50 steals, while Tate – who missed one conference game due to injury – had 43. The dynamic duo ranked 1-2 in the MAC in both total steals and steals per game in MAC games.
• Tate's total of 75 steals is tied for the sixth highest in BGSU history.
• The 2022-23 season marks the first time in school history that two players have had 75 or more steals.
AND DON'T FORGET FLEMING
• Lexi Fleming has 55 steals this season. That total would have led the Falcons in six of the previous eight seasons, but in 2022-23, it places her third on the team.
• The '22-23 season is just the fourth time in school history – but the second time in three years – that three players each have had over 50 steals in a season.

BIG LEX
• Lexi Fleming has been a B!G part of the Falcons' success since arriving at BGSU. The MAC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21, Fleming missed the entire '21-22 season due to injury, but returned to the court this season.
• Fleming has now played in 59 games as a Falcon. BGSU has a record of 46-13 in those 59 games, including a 27-8 ledger in MAC regular-season play, a 31-10 mark in all games (regular season and tournament) against conference foes and a 21-4 record in home games.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE PHOENIX
• Green Bay is 28-5 on the season, and the Phoenix went 18-2 in the Horizon League, winning the regular-season championship. Green Bay saw a 13-game winning streak snapped with a 73-61 loss to Cleveland State in the HL Tournament championship game, but will enter the BGSU game having won 25 of the last 27 games, including an 84-52 win over Niagara in the WNIT's first round.
• Individually, All-HL First-Team selection Sydney Levy has 11.8 ppg, pacing a team with six players averaging at least 8.2 ppg. Levy has hit a team-leading 73 three-point field goals.
• Head coach Kevin Borseth's team is 15-1 at home, 11-2 on the road and 2-2 in neutral-site games this season. In conference play, Green Bay went 9-1 both at home and on the road. Borseth, just the third head coach in program history, led the 2021-22 club to records of 19-8 overall and 14-4 in the Horizon League.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons trail Green Bay, 2-1, in the all-time series. The teams met twice in the 1990s, with the road team winning each game. The Phoenix picked up a 76-65 win at Anderson Arena (Dec. 13, 1990), with the Falcons capturing a 71-69 win in Green Bay three years later (Dec. 22,1993). Most recently, the teams met in Victoria, B.C., three years ago (Nov. 28, 2019), with the Phoenix winning a 73-54 contest on Thanksgiving Day.
DOWN THE ROAD
• The BGSU-Green Bay winner will advance to the third round of the WNIT, and will face either Ball State or Memphis, with the date, time and location of that game to be determined.
